Do you tip labourers/contractors?

We have roofers in at the moment. They gave us a quote, we accepted. The main guy is a mate of a family member. I haven't really had to call on folk in professions such as these before (first house). Is it the done thing to tip them? Is it expected/usual practice? If you are in such a job, what is your experience?

I'm a plumber and have been tipped before. Usually people will just round a price up to the nearest 10 because they don't have any change. I've also been tipped with biscuits, weed and toilet paper ( no idea why). They've priced the job to make sure they make money so no extra is required from yourself . Admittedly the people that tipped have had a quicker service on future jobs , me willing to work late to get to them as they're nice people, but these have been emergency call outs (leaks, broken toilets etc).

Cash money tip- no, they’ve set their price they know their worth. Cuppas and getting in their preferred biscuits if it’s a longer job - yes, just to be nice.

This is the correct answer. They wouldnt price to rely on tips.  Tea, coffee, biscuits and online reviews if you like(d) their work

We tend to give them some beers or a bottle of wine or pet food for their pets if they do a good job.

I still don't get tipping culture and refuse to tip outright. I don't want to see the UK become a cesspool of shit employers underpaying staff and telling them they should rely on tips, and if you don't either, I suggest not tipping. It's an absolute farce, you should pay for your service to your company and the company should pay their staff, that's their whole fucking job

Never tipped anyone. But always offered refreshments etc. If a longer job, I will sometimes do an ice lolly run, or a coffee shop run etc. If a longer job, and it's over a holiday / bank holiday, I'll get a crate of beers in. For example we had guys working either side of Xmas, so we got them some beers for the break.
