What’s your opinion on the impact of the change to no fault divorce in 2022?

Do you think it has been good or bad? Made divorce more socially acceptable? Too easy? I’m on the fence - I think it’s really good that people in abusive or toxic relationships can leave relationships more easily but I also worry about the grass-is-greener culture where it is easy to think there is a better option and you can just swipe to see who else is available, particularly when there are children involved.

If you're a swipe right kinda person, why get married in the first place? A bunch of them don't settle down. I don't think it really encourages people to get divorced for no reason more, but lets people escape crummy and bad situations easier. If I was married to a "swipe right" kind of person, then I'd want them to feck off anyway. Marriage is declaring a commitment to one person so if that's broken down, why force people to be married until the person actually cheats?

I love my ex-wife and she loves me but being technically married for years and not being able to get divorced was a legal and logistical ball ache that neither of us deserved. People should be allowed to do what they want with their lives, not allowing no fault divorce isn't going to suddenly make doomed relationships work, it's just going tmttpap people.

No such thing as 'too easy'. You should have the right to divorce, for whatever reason. It SHOULD be easy, in a legal sense, and this change is only a good thing.

No fault divorce can only be a good thing. Making people either wait years (two if it's uncontested and five if it is?) or blame one another to get it done faster only increases acrimony, maybe even introducing it where there was none originally. It's entirely unnecessary to make people wait for years, it serves no purpose. Why shouldn't people be able to end a relationship cleanly and quickly? It's not like it can be done on a whim, there's still paperwork and formalities.

Divorce should be socially acceptable and legally as easy as possible. It's hard enough emotionally. If you have to force people to stay together with difficult legal procedures and social stigma then the marriage is dead anyway. Staying together for the sake of the children isn't a good idea. My parents always said they should do that but my best year as a child was when they separated for a while. My mother was much happier and nicer to me because of it
