You voted for an administration that has aggressively cut funding for education, educational programming, and several government departments that help women and children - while simultaneously aggressively adding funds to fascistic paramilitary forces that *harm* and terrorize children. Mister Rogers would be extremely disappointed in all of you.
I guess I don’t see those people as people. More like inhumane monsters for whom I have no respect (people who hated Mr. Rogers and don’t want kindness taught not conservatives in general).
I think it's dangerous to dehumanize even those people. We need to accept that they are people, and that people are capable of some really horrible things. Dehumanizing them only enables the rest of us to overlook troublesome aspects of ourselves, rather than facing and addressing them.
"Those are monsters, not people. I know I'm a person, therefore I can't be a monster" is a very dangerous road to go down. We should all be on the lookout in ourselves and our communities for the very real horrible things that lurk within people.
I watched him as a kid. By the time I was in middle school, there were many untrue rumors that he was a child molester. "I wouldn't want him in my neighborhood" was a common joke.
You can also Google "Fred Rogers criticism" to see info about the criticism.
Google says that Cox News started in 1996, way after after what I am talking about.
In any case, I have never watched Fox News and have no idea how that is relevant.
Mr. Rogers was from Pittsburgh, and his show was filmed locally. As a city, we consider him our patron saint. For was wonderful as he was on his show, he was apparently even *better* in real life. There’s so many great stories about him out there in town.
We loved him so much, in fact, that somebody stole his car. It was all over the news, and the next morning, the car was back in its spot with the note “If we knew this was your car, we never would’ve taken it.” Mr. Rogers declined to press charges.
I got to see the original set, puppets, and even TROLLY! in action on my second grade field trip! It was the same day Jim Henson died, so it was a very memorable and bittersweet day.
I love that pretty much anybody I met who grew up in Pittsburgh has a Mr Rogers story. People who ran into him at the grocery store or had him visit their school, that dude got around.
I love his testimony to Congress in 1969.

In those days, *everyone* got it.
Things have really, really changed.
You’re absolutely right, but during his time no one ever said anything bad about Mr. Rogers. I would think that you had to have something wrong with you to dislike Mr. Rogers, and you kind of figured out where that could possibly apply.
This. This is an example of healthy masculinity. It’s not weak, it’s not insecure, it’s not trying to control.
It’s the kind of strength that is sure enough in itself that it can build others up, give them hope, and tell them that they do matter.
We didn’t deserve that man, but I’m glad he was with us for a time.
We care more about being on the right side of history and proving people wirh differing opinions wrong that we dont take the time to understand why those we disagree with came to their conclusion in the first place.
