Most places frown upon it. I live near Fountains Abbey in North Yorkshire and I know they have an issue with people trying to do it. I don't know what they actually do if they catch you. Obviously if you are on a beach or in the wilds somewhere it's different, but you should ask permission of the landowner if it is private land (in England at least)

I plan on having my ashes pressed into a vinyl record to be played at my funeral. Traditionally, people choose a song that meant a great deal to them in life. I'm just going to record a few minutes of myself screaming gutturally from beyond the veil and use that instead.

My granny's best friend wanted to go somewhere warm in the Mediterranean sea from Spain, or the Atlantic off Portugal. She ended up scattering him somewhere in the river humber on a cold wet miserable spring morning

As far as I know the ones I know don’t let you do that. Not sure if I was playing and scored a goal that I would happily slide through someone’s granny as a celebration! Had a similar situation but it was an old church and they won’t allow it on the grass so had to put them at a different location on the grounds which was a bit shite.

We scattered my mother-in-law and brother-in-law in the sea at a beach where they used to go on holiday. If you plan on doing this, make sure that it's an off-shore breeze blowing when you do.

I was rowing on the River Dee in Chester and having a very difficult time getting past one of the pleasure boats that go up and down. My two attempts at passing it failed before I decided to take a break and let it get ahead. While having a drink, I found myself in a cloud of dust and turning to look, got a face full of it. All the boat’s passengers were dressed in black and I quickly realised I had become an unwitting part of someone’s send-off. For those who are afraid to ask: protein powder is what it tasted like.

I only really know of two from personal experience. One had family links with Scotland so they took him to a quiet but recognisable location on the shore of a loch and scattered him there, so it's not a 'busy' location but they can go visit the same spot in future easily enough. The other basically dumped her dad in a shrubbery at the local park, as far as I know. Again I think the logic was that she can go sit on the nearby bench and feel close to him, but the way she described it was pretty hasty and unceremonious. To be fair, he lived his whole life in that area so it was his local park too.
