PCP will not write adhd they’ll refer you to a psychiatrist where they put you through the test to see if you need it or are just wanting it.

I get that you want to find a primary doctor who can prescribe ADHD meds. For the Addison/Carrollton area, I’d suggest checking with clinics that offer both general and mental health services. Some docs might refer you to a specialist, but it’s worth asking if they’re comfortable prescribing ADHD meds.. I’ve used Legion Health before for ADHD treatment. It’s all virtual, and they handle prescriptions, so if you're open to telehealth, it could be a good option. Make sure to discuss your med history with the doctor to find the right fit. Hope this helps!

If you have a formal diagnosis and a recent prescription for them it would be harder to find a doctor that won't prescribe them than will.

I would not recommend this doctor. They only give hand-written prescriptions and are flagged at many pharmacies. I went in to discuss ADHD meds and the doctor himself was clearly on drugs himself.

I haven’t gotten a hand written rx in at least 6 years! That’s wild and for sure would get flagged especially bc it’s a controlled substance.

This isn’t the case if you go to a Texas Heath doctor. Not sure how new this is, but 4 years ago my PCP could prescribe. Now I need to be referred to Texas Behavioral Health psychiatrist who can prescribe. PCP can’t.

My PCP prescribed/s my ADHD medication before and after kids. So I would reach out to your old PCP. You mentioned you need a new one, is it due to insurance? Regardless you should reach out to your old PCP and inquire about what you should do. It’s the easiest way to not get the run around.

Dr Kenneth Baird on Hebron. Excellent doctor. I was prescribed Adderall due to long covid symptoms after some other treatments didn't work. He may not prescribe it for other reasons and I required regular visits to stay on it.

I think this would be a good question for the individual offices near you that you’re interested in. I know ppl who went to PCP but were referred to psychiatry anyhow. With your history of being on meds they’ll probably subscribe it though.
