I love maps like that. What’s the difference between a plain and a prairie?
View on Reddit #77921496

JamesTheLockGuy@reddit (OP)

They don’t build Little Houses on plains, only the Prairies.

I was failed by the fact that taiga isn't on this picture.

I learned it from Crusader Kings 2.

This is great. I still don’t understand the difference between a mesa and a plateau. Is it height?
View on Reddit #77623988

Metzger4Sheriff@reddit

Plateaus have cliff on at least one side but not all sides. Mesas are plateaus that have been eroded to have cliffs on all sides. Plus COW-boys. https://i.redd.it/n5mrqslxwjhg1.gif

I feel like you could swap the sound and lagoon and it would still be correct.

nobot4321@reddit

I think this is way too general to be useful. What’s the difference between a bay, sound or gulf based on this picture? Or a plain v a prairie? Can’t really tell.

You just taught me something....and as a Student of Biomes i never knew this was a thing. Sound! In [geography](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geography), a **sound** is a smaller body of water usually connected to a sea or an ocean. A [*sound*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_bodies_of_water_called_sound) may be an [inlet](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inlet) that is deeper than a [bight](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bight_(geography)) and wider than a [fjord](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fjord); or a narrow sea channel or an ocean channel between two land masses, such as a [strait](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strait); or also a [lagoon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lagoon) between a [barrier island](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrier_island) and the mainland.

I still remember being in elementary school and I never could remember the difference between Plateau and Mesa, or some other nonsense, and it really had me feeling like an absolute loser who’d never amount to anything, so I ended up joining the military….. stayed for 20 years, retired, now I’m retired at 42, chillin on a couch smoking weed and watching tv at 11am…. Some people would say, you did amount to nothing, you loser! And others who’d say I’m living the dream. I say, I’m living the dream…. ![gif](giphy|ch1Z4rUWBZBnO) # truestory
