No just a provisional license. No you don't ever have to learn how to drive and yes a lot of these ID cards are supposed to be accepted but often they aren't provisional is £20 and saves the hassle. I've had a provisional license for 10 years* *Does have be renewed.

You can order the D1 form to be posted to your home as well: https://www.gov.uk/dvlaforms I mention this because my nearest few Post Offices have barely any government forms whatsoever now, including a D1 DVLA form, as my partner's mum discovered recently.

Get the form from the post office If you are unsure they will help you, it's a D1 its funny becaue the DVLA are probably the most difficult to get in touch with but are very helpful when you manage to.

I have both one of those (the Post Office one) and a driving licence, for redundancy. There are various authorised providers for proof of age cards, and they have different rules about proving your identity so it's good to shop around, if you to down that route. If you are legally able to get a provisional (ie meet the sight and health requirements), definitely go down that route.

A lot more than it should have! I had a string of bad instructors so I failed twice. Few lessons with a good instructor and passed right the next time. It really depends on where you are, and whether you can get a good instructor. Also once you have the basics, going out supervised by a friend or relative (with proper insurance!) can help getting some more practice for cheaper. *** Mind you, I take a long time to learn practical skills in general, some people pick up the basics of driving really quick...

It varies **massively** from person to person, for example: I had 7 two-hour driving lessons at a cost of £30 a lesson (we're talking mid 90s here) and then whatever the cost of a test was. So in total I spent less than £500 and had my full licence 8 weeks after my 17th birthday. My best friends mum on the other hand had been learning to drive for 10 years before I started and is due to sit her **twenty ninth** driving test next month.

I got a citizen card as I needed something in the interim when I sent off driving license to change my married name (took months thanks to the cv19 backlog). I use it most days and never have an issue with it. I even use the Yoti app, which is quite good if I’ve rarely forgotten my ID card.

I had one as a teen. I have a medical condition which prevents me from applying for a provisional driving license and I didn’t have a passport until I was in my 20s.  Idea was it was ID for going to the cinema and buying age restricted products. Reality was that 80% of the time it was accepted fine, but when it wasn’t it was embarrassing. They are supposed to be recognised as valid ID but a lot of staff just don’t see them enough and assume it’s a fake ID,
