Did WWI have a bigger impact on Britain than WWII?

I'm a huge history buff and I recently visited England and Scotland. Traveling around Britain, I noticed far more historic sites and references to World War I than World War II. For example, lots of monuments to the fallen soldiers of World War I such as the one at Edinburgh Castle. Is there a reason for this? It seems like World War I was a much bigger event than World War II, despite the fact that one of Britain's greatest heroes (Churchill) led the nation through the Blitz, etc.
