Alien Autopsy, Did you think it was real? Did it blow your mind?

OMG it’s 30 years since this stupid thing fooled everyone. Did you fall for it like I did? It was like an X-Files only real but fake.
Responsible-Mud-269@reddit
60% of readers thought the photos were fake, but all 100%, however, found it, 'surprisingly easy to masturbate to'
Character-Clerk1601@reddit
of course it wasn't real i listened to a podcast with the guy who produced it and he explained how he did everything
porb2020@reddit (OP)
Of course. Why didn’t I listen to the podcast back in the 90s 🤪🤪
that1tech@reddit
I didn’t but wanted it to be real
accountforcatsonly@reddit
I remember this. My family gathered on a school night (8pm) to watch this. I spent 95% of the time under a blankie (I was 10.) the next 10 years, my nightmares would consist of aliens. Not a good thing to let your kid watch 🤣
RandyArgonianButler@reddit
Hell no. I remember seeing it around 11 years old, and thinking it was fake as fuck.
AvramBelinsky@reddit
No, because my dad was born in the 1940s and immediately clocked that the spiral telephone cord shown in the background of the video was not appropriate for the year it was supposedly filmed (1947). Spiral telephone cords were not introduced until the 1950s.
porb2020@reddit (OP)
Wow. That’s good to know.
terminalaku@reddit
no. but i loved the x files episode that referenced it, the two-parter on the train.
itsasnowconemachine@reddit
Also referenced in one of my favourite episodes - Jose Chung's From Outer Space.
gr8ful_phl0yd@reddit
Hands down the best episode of the series
Don_T_Blink@reddit
Also referenced in Tony Hawk Pro Skater when I rode Roswell with officer Porky.
CottaBird@reddit
I want to believe. ( <>..<> )
EIO_tripletmom@reddit
No. I’m sorry, people thought it was real? I loved X-Files and there is certainly alien life in the universe, but who would have believed this was real?
Boring_Energy_4817@reddit
My high school civics teacher showed us this with zero context.
red286@reddit
Damn. The only crazy video any of my teachers showed me in high school was one year when my grade 10 English Lit teacher decided to show us the 1971 version of Macbeth.
The one directed by Roman Polanski, and produced by Playboy Productions, and is absolutely fucking filled with full-frontal nudity.
porb2020@reddit (OP)
Omg. Today that would get you fired. 🤣
PlagueDrWily@reddit
No but I enjoyed it all the same; I had already been watching Unsolved Mysteries and Sightings for a few years at that point, so when the X-Files/alien abduction craze of the mid-90s came along, I was more than ready for it.
We even had a local cable-access TV show that dealt with aliens and the paranormal - the host was the ex-wife of one of my high school teachers - that I couldn’t help but watch every week to find out about the alleged weird stuff happening in my very normal suburban hometown.
Funkopedia@reddit
I still haven't gotten around to watching that. Is it worth seeking out?
lachrymologyislegit@reddit
There's also a movie about the creators of the "documentary."

porb2020@reddit (OP)
It’s fairly realistic. But you don’t have to seek it out. It’s on YouTube.
andy_nony_mouse@reddit
I believed it because it was fun to believe in it. That was before conspiracy theorists took over the government and started wrecking everything. Now believing in goofy ass conspiracies is not fun, and trying to unravel the damage they do will take years.
18randomcharacters@reddit
I don't remember, but generally I'd say in the early 90s, I was a gullible teen and believed in all sorts of nonsense like astral projection and shit, so I would not be surprised if I fell for this too.
threefeetoffun-@reddit
I did not. Of the weird things Fox did in the 90s I was a big fan of the Oswald mock trial.
larryjrich@reddit
Lol, Fox had a lot of weird specials and programs in the 90s. My favorite one was a show they did about Elvis sightings and where they brought out and did interviews with all these people that claimed to see Elvis and that he was still alive. Then at the very end they brought out a doctor who basically went and said 'I was Elvis's doctor. I examined his body and did the autopsy. He's dead! DEFINITELY dead, ok?". They just put an end to that thing and it was the funniest thing I saw.
porb2020@reddit (OP)
Oh weird. I don’t remember that. I’ll have to look it up.
threefeetoffun-@reddit
Ok...this is embarrassing. I have evidently had too much to drink. It was not Oswald. It was James Earl Ray and it was on HBO. I won't delete my stupidity.
porb2020@reddit (OP)
We’ve all been there😝
CrippleWitch@reddit
My sister had nightmares for a week after they aired this. (She was like 7 so no shame to her, honestly). I kept insisting that if it WAS real no way they'd show it on tv and it had to be fake. My dad got mad since he really WANTED to believe it was real and his young daughter kept harshing his bliss.
My sister now gets routinely faked out by bad CGI and now AI images and videos. My dad still believed in aliens u til the day he died so that's nice for him.
tigerblue1984@reddit
I never thought it was real. Didn't stop it from scaring the crap out of me though lol
Top-Wolverine-8684@reddit
My mom and stepdad are fervent believers. I can't tell you how many times they have brought conversations to a crashing halt during the holidays because they casually bring it around to "the alien documentary we watched on The History Channel the other day". More than once, my mom has left the table in tears after everyone started laughing. They seem so normal otherwise, but they feel verrrrry strongly about aliens.
Squirrel_Master82@reddit
This happened with my dad and the history channel's mermaid "documentary". It was funny but also really embarrassing.
throwawayhbgtop81@reddit
Maybe they are from another world, here in disguise...
porb2020@reddit (OP)
I don’t doubt aliens exist but that video was just old school trolling.
GenJohnnyRico@reddit
I remember buying this on some special CDs so you can watch it on your computer. I thought I was living in the future, watching a video on my computer!
throwawayhbgtop81@reddit
I thought it was real until the credits aired at the end.
porb2020@reddit (OP)
Yeah that was weird. Like why would it have all that production stuff.
throwawayhbgtop81@reddit
Do you remember the alien abduction one Fox did that they presented as found footage? It totally came off as real (and they definitely advertised it as such), until the credits played lol.
porb2020@reddit (OP)
No. Thankfully I didn’t waste my time on that. 😅
chesterforbes@reddit
It was fun. But there were way too many things that were off with this video that didn’t make sense if it was real
porb2020@reddit (OP)
18 yo me was ready to believe. But after, critical thinking me was what is this shit?
doompines@reddit
Lol, no. 🤣
SweetCosmicPope@reddit
I was super into this, and absolutely believed it. I remember they brought Stan Winston, of whom I was a huge fan, in to watch it and he stated that it was impossible to fake this. If the most famous and talented practical effects guy says it can't be done, it must be real!
Then I found out years later that they took his comments out of context and edited them to make it seem like he was saying that...
porb2020@reddit (OP)
The lengths they go to deceive. 🤬
Ippus_21@reddit
Seriously? Did anyone, actually?
I could tell from the first ad for it that it was obviously fictional.
Then again, I knew people in the 2010s who were convinced that Discovery show about Mermaids was fkng real... "no one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people"
porb2020@reddit (OP)
That’s funny. Yeah I remember that stupid mermaid video.
DJWGibson@reddit
I debated. But I was also smart enough to realize it it WAS real it'd be covered in a lot more places than Fox and wouldn't just be a TV special.
porb2020@reddit (OP)
That’s true. Never thought of it like that. Also weird that it was a rental in the vhs market😝
Imaginary_Ad_9682@reddit
Man the marketing on Fox for that was so intense. 11 year old me was all in.
Lopsided_Bet_2578@reddit
Huge deal for me at the time!! I mean, as fake as it turned out to be, the fact that there was essentially a pre-Blair Witch “recovered footage” presentation of a “real” government project involving a dead alien on network television in the mid-90s, is kind of mind blowing!
porb2020@reddit (OP)
Very true.
jessek@reddit
No.
Optimal_Solution663@reddit
Dont be a fool. That's what they want you to believe.
ImprovementThat2403@reddit
No, I'm afraid it did not.
FoppyRETURNS@reddit
I believed in aliens. Had to learn that just because the government lies to you, it doesn't mean the accuser is telling the truth.
Independent-Egg-9760@reddit
No. No.
