What would make you go to a classical music concert?

"most adult tickets are £10-20 and children are between £0 and £10 for three hours' art" That pretty much sums up the attitude and is partially why people don't bother with it. Make classical music that people want to listen to live and provide an experience they can't have by just sitting down with some headphones on at home. Being realistic, not many people care for classical music in a live setting enough to go out of their way and listen to it even for free. I can guarantee the amount of the UK population listening to it at all outside of it being used in other media is tiny. Whether it's the music itself or the classical music experience of sitting down and just listening to music. Nothing else, just "getting lost in the moment" or whatever. I like classical music...BUT. There it is, there's a "but". I'll listen to some of the "usual suspects" on a rare occasion but the vast majority of classical music I consume is either through video game and movie soundtracks or as an accompaniment to another style of music. I have to be in the mood for classical music, usually as background noise, but I'll probably whack on some Nightwish or Dimmu Borgir and there it is in the background, accompanying the band rather than being the main event. I don't even think I would bother with classical music if I wasn't a musician myself and found appreciation in the music I didn't have 16 years ago before I got into it. Live? As it's a recent example for me with a big sample size of acts, I went to Bloodstock festival last weekend and that pretty much sums it all up for me. Trollfest were dressed as flamingos and had wacky crowd interaction, Abbath were up there in their corpse paint and leather battle armour pretending that they're evil, Killswitch Engage had the guitarist saying dumb shit like "gape that pit" chanting "piss jug man" to properly engage with and include the audience, another band came up in hippie style white clothes with ropes for belts like they're some Christian cult...One band were dressed in shit covered overalls, gas masks and threw inflatable poo into the audience. I could have stayed home and listened to Megadeth, maybe throw on a live album, but they get up there and add a little pizzaz I'm not going to get from sitting on my ass on the couch. "We're known as the sunshine boys"...No you're not, Dave. What do we get from classical music? From my experience with the small (<10) events I've been to, you sit down for a bit whilst they play some music all dressed nice in the same formal garb every other classical act wears. Yea, no thanks, I'll buy the live album, I'm not sitting through that again. I go to live events to see a show I can't get at home, not just hear that thing I like but live, no bells or whistles. From my experience, classical concerts are just a pretentious affair. Other acts are selling out stadiums and charging £100 a ticket because they put on a show. You rarely get to that stage by just getting up, doing your thing and fucking off. Classical acts are charging £10 on the door and struggling to get people in because they're too good to be tarnishing the experience with tacky crowd interaction and a bit of fun. Is that any different to any other act? As though classical music is on another level from, I dunno, Genesis or Lizzo or something. <insert what the kids like...Definately not Genesis>. It's all art, music is art, classical music is no better than any other style of music but those who are into it and play it so often make it seem like it's 50 levels above everything else. That's highly offputting. Nobody wants to associate with that kind of attitude. It gives the image of some snooty kid complaining that "mumsy only spent £900 on this cheap tacky cello!" and "eugh, a keyboard? Casio, no less! The instrument of peasants!" Ultimately, at the end of the day, somebody or some people sat down, wrote a song and here it is. It's no better or different than anything else, but there's that's the impression people who enjoy it give, that they think it's better...Which if you're jealous of stadium sellers, it's probably not the audience that is the issue. To come full circle: you want to get tons of people through the door? Break tradition, write songs that appeal to more people and put on an actual show people want to see and be a lart of rather than just being a bunch of dudes in classy outfits probably playing their """rendition""" (cover. It's a cover) of a song written by an old dead dude.
