Those of you who have no trouble finding jobs, what do you think makes you stand out?

I have been very fortunate to not have an issue getting jobs. I work in IT, so here are my tips: 1. Practice - Interview even when you have a job and aren't looking, try to interview every 3-6 months to keep those interview skills sharp. You might either find something really interesting, or worse case they just have to hire another applicant. Much like public speaking, or presenting, the more you do it the more comfortable you are. I always ask for feedback during or after the interview, as it's important to me to understand what went well and didn't. 2. Revisit your resume often - I normally setup a 1:1 OneNote and share it with my boss. I list out high-level objectives for the year, review them, then track my status towards those goals and make notes. This helps me highlight the work I've done, shows I'm serious about my career, and makes my bosses life a lot easier come review time. This also helps me beef up my resume every so often (LinkedIn and CV) because I didn't forget what I did back 6 months ago, I jotted it down. It's also a great way to build a case for a promotion when it comes time. 2. Sell Yourself - You are awesome. You need to let your future employee know that. Talk about YOUR accomplishments. Don't be afraid to highlight how you navigated and handled hard situations, how you showed leadership when there wasn't any, and how you took the extra step to make something better. An organization that sees you have great soft skills, leadership skills, and the knowledge to accomplish the job by being proactive sets you leaps and bounds above the rest. 4. Be purposeful - Review your resume and write down examples that might be asked about. "Tell me about a time you missed a deadline, how did you handle that situation?". Be concise (don't ramble, be confident/sure in your answer) and take them through the answer by talking about the situation, the actions YOU took, and the results of those actions. 5. Be a little personable - Help break the ice with the interviewer, make a few moments of small talk before diving right in. A good interviewer will do this off the bat, since they should want you to be calm and your best self. Read the room, sometimes the hiring team is busy and wants to get moving, so don't chit chat too long. Just some pleasant introductions and let them easily direct the interview, as they should be guiding you through their process. Ultimately, having a little personal charm, a small laugh, a sincere smile can go along way while interviewing, especially virtually. This one is subjective and I definitely read the room. Most times though if I sense the culture is toxic because everyone seems miserable and unwilling to be a little personable, I probably dont want to work for that person/group anyways. 6. General Prep/Follow-Up - Make sure you have some pre-loaded questions ready to go before and some thoughts about what to ask after the interview. Pre-interview, you ask questions like, "so I'm sure I answer these questions to the best of my ability, what would you say is the perfect candidate for the job?". This gives you a leg up because now they will share a bit more about what they are looking for beyond the Job Description. You can try to highlight their wish list while the interview is going on. Be sure to have some general questions available post-interview, but I recommend taking mental notes throughout the interview. If they mention "the team has been working hard on a new project" you can ask some questions like "what size is the team?", "what type of projects does the team work on?", "how do you see the team/role evolving over the next few years?". No right or wrong here, just be engaged and passionate about the role.
