How can I unlock someone’s phone after death?

My aunt just passed away. My uncle would like to access her phone as there are many memories on there and would like to access these.
It is an apple iphone. How would we be able to access the phone without the passcode? We don’t want to put the phone into factory settings as this will erase everything.
Thank you in advance.

It’s not possible, my uncle passed away last year and my mum ended up with his phone and iPad. She had a hell of a job just getting both devices to work even after a factory reset as he had them linked to his Apple account.
In the end they were both done in store at a Genius Bar but only with solicitors letters confirming the death and inheritance of the devices. You can’t open a device to access its data, only for use as a new, wiped device.

So wait they erased everything instead of unlocking it? Im trying to find out how my mom died and there are important clues on her phone

I’m afraid Apple will not unlock a device for anyone ,even the police.

How do we know you didn’t ask this 3 years ago to cover up a crime? Hmmm. Jk!
