This is Taiwan's Tier 1 special forces unit akin to Delta or SAS. This photo was taken in a military parade, I wager the ballistic masks have a dual-purpose for protecting their identities and for posturing just to look drippy and intimidating.
ASSC members are well trained special ops, but to put them at the Delta/SAS level is way over the top.
The only few known action "achievements" so far for the ASSC were participating suppressing and rescue hostages during two domestic prison riots in 1987 and 2015, and pro bono humanitarian aid rescuing more than one hundred civilians in 2009. If that's Tier 1 team job, they are bloating themself.
Reminds me of the People's Armed Policewoman a few weeks ago with a modernised Type 79 looking like it drove into a Cabela's. Red dot, bougie AR handguard, the works.
Their main battle tank is still the hopelessly outdated CM11, which is a M48 + M60 hybrid, I think they are used to it lol. They are finally getting Abram’s tho
I mean, it's a parade. I dont think they really need to outift their troops with actually useful gear if they're already putting those weird masks on. Plus a gun is a gun, civies like me wouldn't really think twice about how old that gun actually is, we'll just think it's cool.
For real Garandthumb or some other youtuber tested out the ballistic masks and while they do protect the loss of vision and difficulty to breath makes them just not worth it most of the time
Also, if you get shot it will still take you out. You'll at the very least be knocked out and have a concussion. Worst case, it doesnt even stop rifle rounds and it doesn't even allow you to wear a helmet.

Safariland was the OG manufacturer of ballistic masks. Then it was Taiwan making their own copies, now funnily enough, China.
