Hi all, look what I found. This is the answer.

EternalSage2000@reddit
I’m trying to be in as much debt as possible. And hoping that’s a good take.
S0nG0ku88@reddit
Honestly not a bad strategy if everything crashes and gets devalued.
MD-HOU@reddit
I don't know, I dated a girl in 2022 for two months until it turned out her mother during covid had talked her into putting everything on her cards (70k in cc debt..as an accountant!!) cause the system would collapse very soon. And there she was, paying exorbitant interest two years later.
S0nG0ku88@reddit
Risky predicting the day the world will end.
Key-Practice-8788@reddit
That's Trump's plan with the dollar. Crash the dollar and that 37 Trillion goes away pretty quickly. Right? Isn't that how that works?
MammothAdeptness2211@reddit
So I shouldn’t be aggressively paying off debt in the next few months? That was my plan, and then to add to savings.
Bob4Not@reddit
Absolutely pay off your debts, but if you have a low interest mortgage just stick with the payments as you save money.
For your savings, diversify. Have emergency funds in cash. For the rest, diversify - maybe put a little into gold silver physical, and then a little more gold silver ETFs, then maybe a global market ETF like VT. The most important thing is to ONLY invest money in gold, silver, markets that you can stomach not seeing’s come back for 10 years.
ClimateResilient@reddit
Inflation devalues debt, but lenders increase interest rates to compensate for that. The real beneficiaries of inflation are those who hold inflation-proof assets (typically real estate, precious metals, and certain financial instruments).
That said, if you have low interest rates on your debt (<8%) you might be better off just buying gold with those funds. Savings is the worst place you can put money during periods of high inflation.
MammothAdeptness2211@reddit
I have a credit card that is zero interest for the next few months I used for some expensive car repairs. That’s what I was hoping to pay off before the interest kicks in. That’s all.
muff_muncher69@reddit
Pay it off. Don’t listen to these fools
MammothAdeptness2211@reddit
Yeah I will. Then I will be debt free, no interest ever paid and I made money off the bank’s promo. Win
muff_muncher69@reddit
Congrats, you’ll be what the banks call a “dead beat”! Feels good
Albert14Pounds@reddit
That's a whole other level of debt that's rarely advantageous with the crazy rates they charge. Definitely don't be paying that interest. With something like a single digit mortgage rate is more the range where debt may be with taking in for someone.
RlOTGRRRL@reddit
You should pay that off because it will be a variable interest rate that will skyrocket if you don't pay it off on time.
SethGrey@reddit
Gold has been great for my 401k, not like I'll be retiring in 35 years, but its nice to see number go up.
psychotronic_mess@reddit
Well, a high credit card balance means you pay more interest, so there’s a sweet spot… but who knows when things will turn.
taez555@reddit
That’s assuming you pay.
mrblahblahblah@reddit
you guys pay?
EternalSage2000@reddit
I don’t anything. But, I figured. If we go through hyper inflation.
All your dollars aren’t worth much. But my lifetime supply of Spam and powdered eggs. Are worth something.
Bob4Not@reddit
I think you’re better off buying gold silver both/either physically or ETF funds of them.

Cheapest thing you can do with your time in Michigan 😂 I’m convinced you can just walk by a dispensary and get handed a free ounce at this point in the game
squidkidqueer@reddit
as a michigander, can confirm. haven't gotten a free ounce without a BOGO deal though lol
tragicxharmony@reddit
There’s a dispensary around me, I don’t even know which one, I just see the billboards, that advertises a free ounce to the first 300 customers a day. Like, how many customers are they getting in a day? Doubt it’s 300, I’m fairly certain almost everyone is walking out with a free ounce
I almost wish I still smoked, but it makes me anxious or sleepy and I’m more of a caffeine person. Wish they handed out energy drinks for free 😂
JohnnyBoy11@reddit
i might try to collect some ounces to store if they're handing it out for free haha.
but working on cardio is free. increasing mobility with stretching or whatever is free. heck, just check in on your neighbors and shovel their sidewalk or something. there's tons of beneficial stuff you can do with your time in Michigan instead of getting couchlocked...
tragicxharmony@reddit
Straight up, one store near me gives away a free ounce to the first 300 customers every day. It has an expiration date and can only be sold for so long, once it reaches a certain age it has to be destroyed. Hence the free or crazy low prices on ounces. But to be honest I don’t even smoke anymore, it makes me anxious and amplifies chronic pain that I have. Plus I’m more of a caffeine buzz person anyway lol, I have a stock of caffeine pills just in case
JohnnyBoy11@reddit
i might try to collect some ounces to store if they're handing it out for free haha.

mthw704@reddit
I was consuming too much. An eighth of rosin every other day so it was no longer enjoyable & became an escape mechanism.
I haven't smoked in 14 days & I simply can't afford to back.
😑
MrAgave@reddit
Nothing wrong with that, just do what’s best for you bud! Hang in there
moonshinefae@reddit
Just quit a bit ago, hoping the 3k a year not spent on it makes a difference. Maybe cascading effects on fastfood consumption. Long term health benefits too. But it's a real way to live until it catches up to you.
AlwaysShittyKnsasCty@reddit
If I started a couple of years ago, how many more do I have before it catches up to me? Money-wise it already has, but life prospects/outlook-wise, what are we talking? I already have very little to look forward to (as can be demonstrated by cross-referencing my commenting history and the numerous articles in this sub), so I figure it’s at least a nice little buffer from going metal on metal, ya know?
moonshinefae@reddit
I guess you never really know, I had relatively few ill effects over my use but I stopped over the fears that inevitably it would come to that. And that was my mindset too, better to have it with little else to have. It's also never too late to try something different.
I just thought maybe I could be more present in my life, or try to be, and my use was detracting from that. The worse things get the more I personally find myself caring about it, so better to save such substances for when there is little reason to be fully present and caring.
For now I'm trying to give it my best as often and as much as I can without overdoing it. It's not about whether it ultimately matters, if collapse is inevitable. It's about not letting it stop me from being the kind of person I'd be, even if I can't necessarily do the things I'd like with that.
I've quit and gone back a few times but this time felt different. I had a full-on breakdown over a song (Jason Webley - Ways to Love, was my first listen) and just thought of all the ways I could grow if I let myself. Slow growth, perhaps, but growth all the same.
During the breakdown I could clearly see the scale of person I could be, pending my time and ability to attend to such things. And I had and still have a lot to work with and on.
I have an incomplete college degree, ended just shy of aeronautics engineering restrained by finances. I have a hobby I love in DMing TTRPGs that I can hone and sharpen, breathing life into my creative growth. I have under-attended passions in music and lyricism. I have a growing crowd of people I care about who could use some active kindness.
Of course, there are the bad parts too. I can't so easily amuse my brain away from things that negatively impact me. It's one less source of easy dopamine meaning I have a bit more work between me and happiness at times. I do find I enjoy seeking out and discovering what brings me natural dopamine again though, even if it's more work.
It can either be a test or a punishment though, so try and remember that. If you're just punishing yourself, it's not gonna last and you likely don't need such hurt adding on to your life. It's just that inevitably you're borrowing from your future to be content with your present as it is. That was starting to hurt more than I'd realized.
PatDar@reddit
So this has begun to worry me more over the past few months.
I've smoked just about every day for the last two decades. It has really helped me not sweat the small stuff. I've realized that my habit is borderline addiction but it's somehow better than the alternative of being sober. I tried to take a break last year and after a month, I was irritable and angry. Started smoking again and right back to the chill vibes.
Then I heard the Trump administration rescheduled it from 1 to 3. Great news! Finally moving towards legalization.
But devils advocate in me says that the administration is trying to legalize to keep a chunk of the population in a "chill vibe" instead of getting pissed off and doing something.
BayouGal@reddit
Biden started the rescheduling effort. He also commuted sentences for federal pot possession. Trump is trying to reinstate the federal charges, and the federal death penalty. He’s only talking about S3 because he thinks stoners will love him. Fuck Trump.
Spitfire75@reddit
As someone who smoked for 20 years and is 6 months sober, the irritability goes away eventually. It's worth it.
Purple_Puffer@reddit
sched 1 to 3 only helps corporate cannabis giants and big pharma. it was another helping the rich get richer move. no surprises there.
As far as how much you smoke, I really like to reflect on Seth Rogen's metaphor here. I'm paraphrasing but it's that weed is like shoes. The earth is jagged, rough, harsh, full of pointy things that hurt, so we wear shoes. shoes make it okay. Less painful, less rough on our tender, tired feet. No one is addicted to shoes. You're not experiencing life more or better by doing it barefoot. Shoes just make this harsh experience a little less harsh.
Sunglasses is another example he uses, same idea. He also famously said "I'm not cut out for this world but weed makes it ok."
But yeah, a tremendous amount.
Ouroborus13@reddit
Too bad pot gives me insane paranoia and anxiety, or I’d be right there with you.
Purple_Puffer@reddit
Pull up a chair and watch it all burn with me. Acceptance brings calm. You don't have to smoke, but if you get the urge, it'll be here.
capsfan19@reddit
Honestly, pot has only gotten cheaper over the years. It’s gotten better, cheaper, more legal and more accessible for those who need it. It’s a true triumph of the people.

I’m not planning for some movie style “dollar collapses overnight” scenario. I’m planning for the boring version: higher prices, shortages, and more volatility. For me that means paying down high interest debt, keeping a small cash buffer, keeping a few weeks of basics on hand, and investing like normal (broad index funds) instead of chasing doom trades. If things got truly messy, skills and community matter more than gold bars, so I focus on being harder to break financially first.
Nuvuser2025@reddit
This is the way. One thing we’ve learned is, life itself is not a Hollywood blockbuster film. If it is one, it’s more like “Ishtar”: long, dull, boring, but it ultimately ends.
I’m going through the days, much like you, avoiding our consumerist society, always remaining out of debt to any bank or financial concern. I work for a company that serves the wealthy. I wish I had some other means of generating this income, even as meager as it may be to some of you, but I don’t.
Just coasting along now.

BasedChickenTendie@reddit
Silver is a red herring my dude. Gold.
laibach@reddit
Please explain a bit further
NaabeGetOnSkype@reddit
Silver is in the middle of a massive short squeeze / pump right now and it’s basically impossible to figure out the actual value and what’s hype. If you’re actively buying now, you might get a good deal you might get left with something that’s only worth half of what you bought it for in a month.
Gold is following a relatively more predictable trend line.
Though if you’re buying for the purpose of bartering, all bets are off for the first generation I’d bet. Food, medical supplies, water, tools etc will be in high demand, not the shiny rock.
fattmarrell@reddit
Thank you so much for this, my FOMO is out of control on silver right now. Everything is okay, right?
NaabeGetOnSkype@reddit
As far as we can tell, yes. It’s a short squeeze. Similar to what happened to GameStop back in 2021.
People are making staggering amounts of money, and people are losing staggering amounts of money. It’s gambling and should be approached only with money you’re ok completely losing.
immrw24@reddit
what website are you checking the value of silver?
Logridos@reddit
If there's been one constant throughout all of human history, it has been lust for gold. That's not going to go away any time soon.
NaabeGetOnSkype@reddit
Lust for gold doesn’t appear in basic survival level hunter gatherer / early civilizations though. That shows up once farming has been mastered.
If collapse is sharp enough, we might end up at a point where gold isn’t useful but seeds are.
Not saying “go buy corn seeds to stash by a gold bar” but something to consider. It might not hold as much value in bartering if we regress to that level.
It is an excellent inflation hedge if we end up in a dystopian post capitalist society which is why it is a decent part of a prep for collapse lite (TM)
ClimateResilient@reddit
I'd go 70/30 gold/silver. Gold is definitely the more stable of the two but you'll be kicking yourself in the nuts if silver hits $200 in 2026.

Try to find a food pantry or a Catholic church near you. They'll almost certainly help you. It might not be food you want (like chicken) but it will get you through and eating for free for a little while each month can certainly pad your expenses. Don't be embarrassed either, half the country is struggling right now.
Resident_Character35@reddit
Half? The whole country is struggling right now. Half against fascism and its consequences, half for fascism and loving its consequences. The struggle is real.
But_like_whytho@reddit

Resident_Character35@reddit

BayouGal@reddit
No struggle for the billionaires. We should all stop buying their shit.
Comrade_Compadre@reddit
I think the most fucked up part of this is the half that is for fascism and it's consequences is also struggling, but loves it just to spite the other half.
Decades of deep op propaganda that has paid off.
Resident_Character35@reddit
"Pwning the libs" has been their mantra for decades now. They are winning because they don't mind suffering if they think "the libs" are suffering MORE.
nohopeforhomosapiens@reddit
The struggle is real, but not more than half are in need of food. Either way, recognize your struggle is not against your neighbor making 200k or whatever, it is against the billionaires. Likewise, if you are the guy making 200k+ you are not what people are hating, but you are in a position to help, help your community in whatever way you can. The struggle IS REAL. It has also existed for a very long time. I grew up in it, and I dedicate a lot of my free time for others to help, but we need everyone to come together. If you aren't going to eat that can of corn, donate it. AND do not donate it to Goodwill which is a for profit company that takes the things they get for free and at this point is selling them at the same retail price as new.

nohopeforhomosapiens@reddit
Some of us do. I was the kind of poor people insist didn't exist in America. Can see the writing on the wall. I'm fine, a doctor now, but I know most Americans are about to plunge to depths they never knew. We all need to help our neighbors.
AMRtard@reddit
Well that’s because they’re new poor, we’re old poor we’ve been being poor from the start. We’re gonna be fine. In all seriousness, grown and preserve your own food. Understand calories, if you have the option to get a catalytic wood stove do so. Learn to fix everything you own. Trade with people on your community every chance you get. Quit watching tv and start making your own shit. Sew , cook, patch repair, know as many of your neighbors as possible. Own a bicycle, they’re easy to fix, free to operate and don’t need insurance. Utilize your library, it’s a community hub and they have more than books. Also if telecom collapses books work when google doesnt. Own tools, practice using them. If you grew up poor you probably remember your parents and grandparents doing all this same stuff. Ask them if they’re alive, they would love to teach you how to make do with less. When the currency devalues you still have most of the skills and tools you had yesterday. Practice this shit last year when the failure cost was low. So that next year you’re better.
nohopeforhomosapiens@reddit
True for all of the above. I fix everything, I know how to build everything. I even sew. Can butcher my kill, preserve my own food, make my own cheese, tailor old clothes to fit, and darn socks. All are skills I learned from my adoptive grandparents, being adopted my parents and grandparents are much older than others have at my age. I know I am very different from the average millennial aged man, but I am glad I have skills. I know if you drop me in the wilderness I will not die. But the ability to grow things and do a lot of stuff like have chickens and eggs requires someone to have their own land, and a great many people don't have access to that life. Skills never can be taken from you. If you are useful, you will always have a place.
AlwaysShittyKnsasCty@reddit
Millennial dude here. Can you teach me? My dad was a psychonaut and philosopher, so he never got around to teaching me how to take care of stuff and/or build shit. To put it another way, he taught me how to use my mind but not my hands. I know the software side of the computer game, so maybe that’ll give me a leg up there? I guess computers won’t matter when we’re trading shells again, but you never know! Oh well. I do wish I knew a few MacGyver tricks when low on access to certain material goods and the like. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to butcher anything though. Even if it’s for sustenance, I have trouble with the whole aspect of it. I’m not a vegan though, so I guess I’m also a hypocrite. Man, I have so much to work on. Lol.

Not the guy you replied to, but I highly recommend the "1-2-3 books" that used to be published by home depot back in the day. I think the last printing or revision of the core book was back in 2005 so it's twenty years old but you can still get copies from the usual places.
The 1-2-3 books show you pictures of the most common repair or home improvement tasks step by step. The base book covers most home repair tasks but it's more of a broad overview than a specialist text. There's other books "Wiring 1-2-3" or "Plumbing 1-2-3" for more in depth guides on specific tasks that most people don't encounter but that do come up from time to time (most people will not add new circuits to their home's electrical system or work inside the breaker box for instance, but the wiring book shows you how).
If you own your own home, get a set of all three, you can buy them used for a discount. Despite being 20 years out of date, most of us are living in houses that are even older so their example pictures of what to expect if you have to replace an outlet in the wall are going to be pretty accurate today.

You can grow a surprising amount of greens inside for not much money, check out simple green hydroponics on YouTube. Growing lettuce at home is actually pretty easy and takes very little space. You probably know someone with chickens who will use your kitchen scraps and trade eggs for lettuce. The start up cost is moderate but you can spread it out.

Is USD being low good or bad for poor people?
It makes imports cost more, but how much imported stuff do poor people buy? It depends upon what country and how poor, but afaik food prices should not inflate as quickly in the US.
It makes exports sell better, which could translate into more jobs, but again this depends upon the country, economic sector, etc.
nohopeforhomosapiens@reddit
Much of what is on sale in the US is imported now. Yes, low USD value is bad for poor people. At least 15% of the food supply is imported, but also much of the equipment used and needed for transport uses parts that were produced elsewhere. There is a domino effect from having these tariffs. Because labor is so much cheaper elsewhere, we actually send things abroad to have them made and sent back to us. The US outsourced most of it's manufacturing decades ago, and it is not coming back without expertise. That expertise is likely going to be foreign (and require payment and agreements). We have allowed the US manufacturing sectors to flounder and decay. There is no replacement ready.
Shoddy-Childhood-511@reddit
I agree low USD does not build factories or train labor. And Trump's trade wars have halted many export markets.
Although shocking, this seems driven by US consumer choices, so poor people might not be so impacted?

I grew up poor. I still feel like I am. What I wonder is if my mortgage can’t be paid who’s gonna pay someone to kick me out of my house if no one has any money?
nohopeforhomosapiens@reddit
If you have a mortgage, you aren't as poor as you think you are. As for the answer to your question, that is about timing. It is about how many people fall back on payments at the same time, and also, how many get together to support one another. During the great depression, at the start, they took everyone's land. Then people stood up to it, outlaws took banks and burned paperwork, and communities stood outside farms to keep them from being claimed. A great deal were lost to the powers that were, but with the right timing, and enough people affected, communities came together to help. Build your reputation in your community, it takes very little effort and time.

Landlord sold our place a few years back. He bought it for about 250k, sold for 1 million (a friend of mine previously owned this place). After he sold, they doubled our rent immediately. I am not American. In the last month or so, I emptied my USD account which still had had some USD from the time I was a consultant for a US-based client. Today, I sold all the cash USD I had at home (leftover from previous travel) and liquidated all ETFs which hold US Treasury bonds. I also sold some US-based stocks and ETFs, not all of them, but I am making a conscious shift towards other markets sooner than later.
Chill_Panda@reddit
Yeah I’m moving any money I have in America out. Partially because the dollar is no longer stable, and if US bonds get sold, then the dollar free falls. Partially because I don’t want my money in America, I’m not a fan and I don’t care if I could make more money, I just don’t want American.

ECONOMY Dollar has its worst day since April after Trump says he's not concerned with recent slide The value of the U.S. currency, which directly affects consumers, hit its weakest level since early 2022.
Ill-Tea9411@reddit
Trump wants a weak dollar, he has always wanted a weak dollar and he's not alone. His problem though is that the dollar is not actually weak. These doomsday reports are actually promulgated by people like Trump who actually want a weak dollar, by focusing on short term fluctuations in the DXY. And you are doing their dirty work, without actually understanding why they want this.
The DXY is relatively weak from where it was a year ago, but it is still relatively strong compared to its lowest point in 2008. But far from indicating any sort of collapse a relatively weak dollar is desirable for several reasons as this: Booosts exports which Trump wants because backlash to his tariff policies is a headwind to US exports. A weaker dollar results in increased earnings for multinational Us companies. A weaker dollar reduces trade deficits, and it makes US assets more attractive to foreign investors.
So when Trump says a weaker dollar is "doing great" this is what he is talking about. He wants a weak dollar. But it's not so great for American consumers because it makes import goods more expensive. But Trump doesn't seem to be very concerned about that.
Smokey76@reddit
Yes and throw in tariffs and more inflation and we’re getting screwed 3 ways.
Ill-Tea9411@reddit
That's the K-shaped economy for you. Unless you are making at least $150k-$300k you basically don't matter to them. Top 10% earners in the U.S. now account for more than 50% of all consumption, and that share is growing.

It's only the targeted middleclass that's being dismantled or as someone above said "The New Poor"

And it's going to suck for everyone else.
Ardeth-Bey@reddit

khoawala@reddit
This strategy would work if America has the industrial capacity ready to output industrial goods for cheap to export but we're not ready for that. To rebuild our industry would require importing a lot of tools and knowledge which means all this will just skyrocket.

The US mainly exports high end aerospace components (including weapons), fossil energy products, pharmaceuticals, passenger vehicles, an agricultural products. The US is also the world's offshore bank, with financial products, and consulting services dominating the globe. You know all those plans the billionaires talk about doing at Davos? Yeah, American consulting firms like McKinsey and Company actually see to it that those plans are carried out, getting corporations all over the globe to move in lock-step. And despite the headlines the lion's share of this trade occurs between the US, Canada, Mexico, and China.

They want you to buy their book or newsletter, or buy stuff from their sponsors. You are probably not going to learn much watching the news. Maybe go down a rabbit hole with one of the AI search engines and explore the references it can provide to verify what it's telling you. But countries are selling off their US bonds now. And the dollar is only strong because of trust and stability. If countries no longer have faith in that trust and stability, and continue selling their bonds, then the dollar crashes, not becomes weaker, full on free falls.
Trump is playing that line, where he wants it weak but not in free fall. And he doesn’t get to decide the free fall part. The dollar is already precarious with China, India, Japan and Denmark selling off their us bonds, pulling investment funds. If he pushes too far and more countries follow suit then that’s it for the dollar.
Ill-Tea9411@reddit
Several countries are reducing their holding of US Treasury bonds due to US dept and policy risk. But this has had limited impact. The dollar is not crashing, not as hard as Trump wants it to. The largest holders of these bonds are the Federal Reserve, followed by US financial firms. But if Trump gains control of the Federal reserve I wouldn't put it past him to get them to sell off bonds, and try to lower interest rates simultaneously. This is the greatest risk, Not foreign governments.

I think building community is part of the answer here. Everyone able should start a kitchen garden. Everyone that can’t do that, still might be able to join in, donating some time on some tasks, for a share.
There are multiple different kinds of work required, including taking raw produce and preparing it to last beyond its harvesting date.
Could one reach out to small farmers to join in on working the land? Idk. I’m not in the US, but as a city dweller, I’m trying to build my future community by encouraging community now. Encouraging sharing and learning together.
Parcel gardens are becoming a more common concept that a lot of neighborhoods do. Can you somehow start one with yours?
It might not realistically replace all your food needs - at least not at the start - but in some parts of the world having a kitchen garden is common.
Learning from the pot growers how to succeed indoors might be valuable too, but requires more resources, including constant power.

“If you want to look at the purchasing power of the dollar in foreign countries, you have to adjust the USD and the other countries by their respective CPIs. That chart is called REER.
https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/RBUSBIS
Also if you zoom out like 6 months the graph looks completely different there was a big DXY spike in December/January. This is the zoomed out DXY chart.
https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/TWEXBGSMTH”
The dollar is up 22% since 2018 and is still tracking above where it should be on a 25 year average. It could be much stronger but we are not at a point where we are falling off a cliff, this is classic /r/doomerism.
Chill_Panda@reddit
Okay but that’s only looking at how well the dollar is doing…
That chart doesn’t factor in things like world politics. The biggest anomaly that’s going to cause a crash is trust and stability. Countries trust the dollar is stable, that is why it’s stable, it’s the global standard and they have that trust that the global standard, but that trust is eroded.
If countries no longer trust the dollar they will move their investments out of the dollar, and sell their US bonds. Like China, Japan, India, and Denmark have already begun, with more countries signalling that they are going to. If more countries choose to follow this trend then that chart means nothing. The dollar will crash.
If, over the next 3 years, Trump continues like has the past year, then more countries will sell their bonds.

It will absolutely compensate for deprecated USD value. Hell, if hyperinflation happens it will enable me pay offbrhose loans.

Fck, in my country dollar has been the stable one (compared to ruble), do we even have alternatives? Can't move all the money to gold after all
NkhukuWaMadzi@reddit
Gold could be in a bubble right now - not sure if getting in now is good?
detreikght@reddit
Yeah I'm cautious. Bought a tiny test bar (0,1gr) for ~140$ last May, now I can sell it back to a bank for the same price. But it's not as easy as dollars or local currency and banks have a lot of say how much it's worth or you if "scratched" it. I heard pawnshops are better for buying/selling gold, but you gotta know a bit more about gold itself
Greedy_Pin_9187@reddit
Pawn shops are terrible place to sell. They’ll typically give you 80% of spot price.
detreikght@reddit
So then banks are better still?

how are you turning cash into euros? going to the bank and physically withdrawing euros?
RBNaccount201@reddit
I have some in my paypal but I’m going to try to use a bank or a currency exchange online
immrw24@reddit
i’m curious how having euros would help you in the US. no shops would take it? are you planning on moving to europe?
or are you trying euros, waiting for the dollar to drop, then trade the euros for wayyy more dollars than you originally traded.
RBNaccount201@reddit
I’m betting on the dollar dropping and cashing in when the money is worth more. The reason I was using paypal was because I could throw small amounts. I learned I am risking a ban so I’m stopping
immrw24@reddit
oh paypal will ban you for small transactions like that? if you find a good currency exchange online could you let me know the site? i can do the same for you if i find one later in the week.
RBNaccount201@reddit
I will. But I’m gonna try my bank first.
It’s a rule on paypal that you can’t use it to make money on currency conversion rates and this would count. So I’m stopping. Not gonna risk it.
immrw24@reddit
oh paypal will ban you for making small transactions like that? what are you going to use instead? i think your bet is pretty solid. i dont see the dollar stopping its fall from its pedestal. (im not a professional in economics tho)

I'm going to buy the long-lasting stuff that is only made in the US before it gets crazy expensive. I just plan to buy a leatherman and the esee 5 and call it goods for life. Aside from that, I'm just going to expect that my side of the Pacific will be able to pick up the slack when that happens.
nohopeforhomosapiens@reddit
I bought gold back in 2020. The value of gold remains as the USD falls into oblivion, the USD value of what I bought has more than doubled in 5 years because of the devaluation of our currency. It is expensive, but if you can, buy some and hold it. Not on the stock market, not jewelry, actual gold bullion. They sell tiny fractions of it as a sheet if you can't afford a coin. Go to one of those places with the giant WE BUY GOLD signs and get some. Know the price that day beforehand and be ready to negotiate.
immrw24@reddit
how do you ensure those places with the “we buy gold” aren’t selling fakes?
nohopeforhomosapiens@reddit
If you buy something that is US mint, it is unlikely to be fake. Selling counterfeit currency would get them out of business and straight to prison FAST. If you genuinely don't trust them though, you can go to the government website and order it (usmint.gov). That removes any negotiating power you may have, and risks being lost in transit.
immrw24@reddit
this is very helpful thank you. how exactly do you go about negotiating?
nohopeforhomosapiens@reddit
Know the price on the market beforehand. Just search that day price of gold per oz. Know how much you want to buy. Offer about 80% of that price. They will say no way. Then you move up until you agree. Don't offer above the price for the day, or at least not much, they inevitably bought it for less than that. If you let them tell you the price first, they will quote you high. Offer money rather than ask.
immrw24@reddit
and it seems pretty certain that gold will only continue to rise in value because trump’s antics are causing countries to move away from gold? and that won’t stop any time soon. i just don’t wanna get screwed and buy gold at a high then it drops significantly in value.
nohopeforhomosapiens@reddit
If gold drops in value, it is because the currency (I presume USD) has raised in value. Gold will always be valuable. You'll get back what you put in. If gold drops it is because the USD purchasing power is strong. If you buy gold you should be thinking in terms of purchasing power right now and what that will get you. If you can still get that in 10 years, then you didn't lose money. But the chances of gold dropping in numerical terms in USD is pretty low at this point. It is very costly to buy right now, I will admit. If I had to buy now, I would not have bought as much, but I still think it is better than nothing. Rich people have gold. They don't put all their eggs in one basket. Diversify the way you hold your money and you could still lose, but you will have a lower chance of loss.
immrw24@reddit

I've been selling monthly put credit spreads on gold futures since November, so will likely continue that.
Aside from that, I wheel a few stocks, but nothing major. All small positions. I want to keep some long delta on broad markets though, since usually the stock market goes up when the dollar falls.
Ultimately, I think both stocks and commodities are going up with a falling dollar, so I think it's key to stay invested.

NyriasNeo@reddit
I am not. I just check the US vs euro chart. The worst is 1 euro to 1.6 usd (in 2008 no surprise). Right now it is around 1.2. I doubt it will even go back to that point. And if so, it is an adjustment, not a collapse.
Sure, if it goes further, I may have to rebalance into more international exposure. But that is no more than the usual portfolio adjustment.

The moment (mon2601) that China (US $800b) and the EU (€8.2t) offered their holdings of treasury notes and bonds for sale at discount, the age of the reserve currency was over. The US has lost its tier 1 rating forever in deference to gold and silver. If you live in the States, expect uncontrollable inflation, steeply declining exchange rates, and insoluable economic depression. Your governments are about to close their doors. Farewell, and thanks for all the....nothing really
