Has anyone traveled to Colombia recently? Would you recommend it and if not is there a neighboring country you would recommend instead?

Want to travel there but based on government advisories I am having some safety concerns. But I would put more stock into the experiences of people who have gone there recently.

I found Bogota to be safe if you stay in the tourist areas. The old downtown is beautiful amd lively. Pereira amd the small towns around it also felt safe. This was late last year.
