Does Gov.uk one login actually work?

Anyone else think this one login system is a shambles? It's nigh on impossible to get logged in. If you try to use web chat nobody answers. I've yet to receive a reply using the contact form.

No, it doesn't. I re-ordered my driving license when it expired a year or two ago, no problem. Now I'm directed to this when I need to re-order one due to it being stolen when I was in Rome recently. I raised a support case, because it's refusing to even allow me to upload documents to verify my identity. It's *obviously* a bug, and yet the response I got was "To keep your information safe, we cannot give you any more details about why your identity could not be proven." and to phone the DVLA.
The UK had a reputation for some of the best online governmental stuff in the world, this is a *massive* step back.

I've only used it for the Companies House stuff that others have mentioned, and it's worked fine for me. However I'm a bit suspicious that it might be the pilot/first bit of rollout of some version of the not-mandatory mandatory Digital ID that they are trying to force on us.

You could already do all of that with Government Gateway. Instead, they've spent millions on a new system that doesn't work for the majority of people.

My first experience with it has been a shambles. Said it was unable to verify my driving license and has now just locked me out of using any service, with no clear steer on how to resolve. I'm trying to use it to do a task I am legally required to do. I have another ID (passport) that I could use but it's just totally frozen me out and sounds like no one bothers to respond to the contact form. Just pathetic.

Trying to upload my passport and it keeps looping me around and telling me that the only doc I can upload is a veteran related one..not what I asked for..not obvious how to get out of the cycle..

Is this the app you need to verify you're a Director on Companies House? If so, YES! The app always tells me there's a problem.

Just to chip in… If you’re struggling with this your post office will more or less do it for you… visit your local branch and they will guide you ✌🏽

Not a great solution if you are working or living overseas, as many people are.
A trip from China to overcome the badly implemented Government app is an expensive option.

If you've managed to do the ID check then you may not have to verify yet. I spent ages trying to verify as they sent me an email saying as much, but if you check on the bog standard public big of companies house in the people section of your company it will have a date when your verification is due, mine isn't until April and I assume it will just magically start working then?

Having an absolute nightmare with it. Tried calling emailing & webchat no one can help. They don’t recognise my passport or driving licence and for the past few months I’ve had to do everything by post which has made moving house a nightmare

Once you've managed to get your ID verified, using the login seems to work well.
The problem was getting my ID verified, the app just kept getting stuck going in circles back to the same page and failing to recognise me , after many hours of cursing and repeating the process multiple times it finally worked. My partner tried the same thing and the ID app refused to function at all on her Android mobile, tried the ID app on my phone for her and it just kept failing to recognise QR codes saying they were invalid. So we gave up on that and went to a Post Office, and it all worked hunky-dory and was very simple when dealing with a person.
My advice is if you are trying to get a one.gov ID and you hit a problem just give up and go to the Post Office and save yourself a shed load of stress.

I lost my driving licence recently. I created my one login a few months ago (when I had to renew that licence). It took me about 2 minutes to order my new one with the one login process, and it arrived within a week.
So for me it was a definite success story.

One thing to watch out for is that even if you have a "One login", and even though it's supposed to be your single login for gov services, in many cases you can't (yet) use it for certain things so might still need to use other stuff, eg gov gateway.
Eg I have a One Login, and HMRC does provide a mechanism to log in using a One Login, but I personally can't use mine and have to use a Gov Gateway login instead. And apparently they expect people to just remember which login they've previously used for which services.
