IAD -> SPN

Hey y’all! I am taking a work trip from DC to the Northern Mariana Islands, and I have a layover in Tokyo. NMI is a U.S. territory, but I’m wondering if I have to go through customs or do anything international travel related, especially since I have a layover in Japan (it’s 6 hours so I’m not leaving the airport.) Does anyone have any experience with this, or has even been to NMI before and have some tips? I’m mostly wondering if I should get to the airport earlier than I would for a domestic flight (although I have Clear, precheck/global entry.) Thanks!
