Do you know anyone who has won the Postcode Lottery?

The Postcode Lottery website says 85% of players won in 2025. This would imply that a significant number of British Redditors that played would have won. Do you know anyone who won last year?
Carta_Blanca@reddit
A friend of a friend won £12k per month this year
Scott-Cheggs@reddit
Gross.
ElCatski@reddit
What you did there, i see it.
WillBots@reddit
I suspect there are a LOT of Reddit users that don't know what a gross is.
presterjohn7171@reddit
They've all got mirrors.
AdditionNo4197@reddit
I have a friend who got thousands from a relative winning - they won 6 figures. Naturally I will play it now blindly ignorant to the odds.
Swordfish1929@reddit
Yes, my mum's friend got 250k. It was amazing for them, they paid off their mortgage, got work done on the house, and were able to give their daughter a substantial deposit so she could buy a place and stop renting.
White_Sausage1@reddit
thats incredible how long had they been playing for?
Murka-Lurka@reddit
My cousin won about £250k. Given they are army veterans who struggled with employment and soda surfing after they left the army they were able to buy a new home and I was delighted for them.
ghosty_b0i@reddit
Soda Surfing?
No wonder he was broke, can’t imagine how much fizzy pop you’d need to buy for that.
NotInferno045@reddit
Thanks for cracking me up at work one month later 🤣
NotInferno045@reddit
My dad won £3,000 off it and never even told me
Cazhou@reddit
Used to play the PL never won a thing over about 3 years. When we moved I decided to stop. About a year ago my postcode came up and around 6 people in my street won £1000 each. I wondered how long they had been playing it to only win £1000, if I had kept playing it I reckon I would only be winning my money back. Never heard of anyone winning £460,000 like they advertise on TV.
Miserable-Basket-282@reddit
Yes, I know two people that have each won 5 figures recently.
abyvxtoria@reddit
I know two people that have won 5 figures on it
Thumbwizard@reddit
So far i've won a prize selection. Picked some earrings for the wife
Exact_Fudge_4257@reddit
My college tutor just won 18k
Lofty2908@reddit
Won a tenner multiple times. Know people that have won won the postcode lottery in a local village.
theoriginalrkid@reddit
I do actually and it's quite sad. A family friend won a few grand on it so they booked a holiday as you do but only one ended up coming back. (The husband died on the toilet) R.I.P. Rob.
ljr69@reddit
Why did only one come back? Did they flush him down the pan when he died?
ARobertNotABob@reddit
Don't go to the toilet when on holiday. Got it.
Mammoth_Spend_5590@reddit
R.i.p big man, gone but not forgotten Prayers for Rob 🙏
BlaseJong@reddit
Great story
tradegreek@reddit
Shit story more like
BenjiTheSausage@reddit
Mother in law's friend won, she's like 90 so it's come a bit late in life, it was 6 figures
presterjohn7171@reddit
What's the point? I was stood behind a totally knackered old bloke in the co-op the other week who spent £30 on lotto and scratch cards. I said to the bloke what's the point use that money to treat yourself to few pints at the pub and a fish and chip supper? He looked at me as if I was the nutter.
ARobertNotABob@reddit
Well, you are a bit of a nutter to be rudely intruding on people like that.
But I do understand where you're coming from and that your intentions were benevolent, but consider this :
Did you have a grandmother that often said she had "spare change from her pension" to buy you something or other (perhaps a bit expensive too)?
I did.
Then I heard my mum saying the same sort of thing in her "twilight years", "oh, go on, I don't need it".
And now, I'm telling similar lies to my sons.
I'm still doing lotteries, chasing The Big One, not because I could whoop it up (lol, ok, but as long as it's not upstairs), but because my children and perhaps grandchildren would be able to live better, and I can depart happy that those worries for them are no more.
And I don't doubt the old chap you left spechless would have told you the same.
presterjohn7171@reddit
He could take his kids out for lunch once a month instead of wasting his money instead of spending £120 on nothing. I'm sure the family would prefer that. I've no problem with blowing a couple of quid on a dream but that kind of money is stupid at any age and doubly so at his.
ARobertNotABob@reddit
So, not benevolent, just judgemental. OK.
presterjohn7171@reddit
Of course I'm judging him. Isn't that what we all do on thousands of different occasions? You do pick odd battles.
BenjiTheSausage@reddit
She used it to help her grandkids get a mortgage and she went on a big family holiday
Tacklestiffener@reddit
My 95 year old FIL lives in a block of flats with a postcode of it's own. As almost all the flats are holiday homes or investments it struck me a reasonable punt but sadly I'm not a UK resident.
EfficiencyWeird2567@reddit
Mum won some recycled socks! Gave them to me, actually really good quality and very comfortable although I’ve worn the heel out on them wearing them in my work steelies
I_am_Reddit_Tom@reddit
We won a tenner on it a few years ago. But it didn't change us and we never forgot where we came from
originallyale@reddit
Isn’t it £12 a month? So you just got a discount that time
I_am_Reddit_Tom@reddit
You gotta speculate to accumulate...
MACintoshBETH@reddit
Did they present it to you with one of those massive cheques?
I_am_Reddit_Tom@reddit
I said no to publicity. I didn't want everybody we knew coming out of the woodwork to beg for money
garethchester@reddit
Forgetting where you came from would significantly hamper your chances of winning the postcode lottery surely?
peanut_dust@reddit
They've already won it by that point. Post code is no longer required.
Jackerzcx@reddit
I almost want to pay to give your comment an award
mostly_kittens@reddit
Did you go to Benidorm?
engineerogthings@reddit
I used to live there
MuntyCatt@reddit
That's nice.
MACintoshBETH@reddit
Isn’t that in France?
engineerogthings@reddit
Almost as nice as your spoonerism

Harrumph!
engineerogthings@reddit
But are you the kind of people who help others out, I mean sharing your wealth to help others. Basically are you philanthropists, if so can I borrow a fiver.
originallyale@reddit
I’ve just been informed that my uncle won £600 from it! But personally £12.99 a month is far too much for me to risk winning a £5 voucher or something, I’ll just buy the Greggs sausage rolls myself haha
darcsend_eu@reddit
Had a friend whose parents won five figures. The money let them comfortably divorce each other. Then the dad won five figures with his new girlfriend in his new house on the other side of town within a year lol
originallyale@reddit
I was about to say that sounds like a good pair to have won it, it now I’m mad lol
Mid-Pri6170@reddit
did they get to choose the figures?
ARobertNotABob@reddit
The husband appears to have chosen a different figure...
Mid-Pri6170@reddit
you mean he ditched his wife?
nicccce!

MattOG81@reddit

Hope he enjoyed the Porsche and subsequent second divorce
Eskimojudi123@reddit
I won last week! There was a long list of low-value items (chocolates, thermos mugs, etc) and I picked an egg cooker. Not a big win but cheered up my day.
IFornicus@reddit
Think I've won a couple of 20s and a they sent a pair of socks oddly, in maybe 2-3 years
turnipstealer@reddit
Won £45 last year, couldn't believe it.
ChocolateSnowflake@reddit
My mates dad won around 8K last year.
Couple years back an old friend of my dad won over 300K.
mk6971@reddit
Won £15 last month.
TeLoBecchi@reddit
I grew up on a small island (everyone knows everyone) and a few roads won big (5/6 figures I think?) My mum goes to slimming world with a lady who won 6 figures, she still goes every week, drives the same car, lives in the same house etc My mum also knows a lady who spent years playing, and then stopped just before the big win happened. Had to watch all her neighbours celebrate without her!
BallyJ05@reddit
I know someone who won a cheeseboard - woo hoo!
bonjajr@reddit
Me. I won a frying pan.
HalikusZion@reddit
Yes, a buddy of mines parents won £250k each. Turned out they both played and were the only 2 in their postcode so they won big!
cgknight1@reddit
Yes - an old school friend won £185k or so.
My dad won £20K when he was still alive.
elmo298@reddit
What about since he passed?
Small-Mulberry7732@reddit
Doubt he’s won since
LemonsAT@reddit
The odds really are stacked against us
throw_away_17381@reddit
Which is why I never play these lotteries when I’m dead.
ARobertNotABob@reddit
Yep. Mugs game.
LambonaHam@reddit
Sounds like discrimination to me.
RattAndMouse@reddit
He was up but now he's under
IcyPilgrim@reddit
He came dead last
StevieB74@reddit
I pick this guys dead dad.
ARobertNotABob@reddit
I had a win my second month Nov23, for £10.
Two wins in 2024, one of them £1000, one some nice oven gloves. Two wins last year, £100 and a pair of buds. And I've had a win already this year, £15.
Beneficial-Pitch-430@reddit
By ‘won’ they will include people that win £5/£10 or a giftcard. That would include me.
AdZc@reddit
Yea same, won money and a couple of goodies. Got a £5 Greggs gift card just two weeks ago
chickencake88@reddit
Same
ShaneH7646@reddit
A more interesting metric would be those that broke even
jaguar90@reddit
More interesting, but certainly not as marketable a metric!
welshgirl0987@reddit
I "Think" they probably also include the crap things they tell you youve won and should claim lole pound shop cosmetics. I told my OH not to bother offering me them after the first couple of "amazing prizes" he offered me - makes Temu rubbish look amazing
MuddyBoots472@reddit
I think I’ve got £10, £15 and a £5 M&S voucher in the several years I’ve been playing
AfternoonPenalty@reddit
I won in November and December last year - one a tenner and the other 15 quid, which seemed an odd amount to me. Either way, best Christmas we ever had, splurged all me cash on a posh box of crackers :D
k8withan8@reddit
My friends work colleague won over £250k as she was the only person in the postcode who played
lil_tram@reddit
My mum won something like £180 last year
Abwettar@reddit
I won a tenner on it twice, so technically a win but not super exciting.
ElectronicAlps99@reddit
They can't rule this out surely
carolomnipresence@reddit
Couple of tenners
dawind22@reddit
Yeah .... me.
K_O_K13@reddit
Yep me, my Post code won the Millionaire street last May. £55555.00 (18 tickets shared between 16 households) still feels like a dream and not real.
Wrongun25@reddit
What did you get then?
K_O_K13@reddit
'Big things' were Upgraded our cars and a Christmas ski holiday. We've had 6 months of being able to say yes to things without overthinking the cost, but for the 1st time in our life's we've got a rainy day stash and don't argue/worry about money anymore.
A few years ago we played 2 entries and won 2 x £1000 and I've had a few £10/£15 and 3 picked prizes from the list.
Wrongun25@reddit
Nice
LellowYeaf@reddit
My Pilates instructor. I don’t know how much, but it was a significant sum as she said her adult children were immediately asking her for money. Looks like individuals in her postcode area won anything between £18k to £420k in that draw.
atypicalsian@reddit
I won a couple of £5 gift cards late last year, and then won 200 quid last week.
pr0ph3t_0f_m3rcy@reddit
I know a guy who won £250k just over a year ago. He had it paid into his joint account and his partner stole the lot and just disappeared one day.
He's the kind of guy they call "connected" in American films and I'd be very surprised if he just let it go, tbh. Personally I wouldn't borrow a fiver off him.
BloodyCuts@reddit
Parents in law won a couple of grand. We’ve had very small wins here and there but nothing significant.
I want to cancel it but now I worry that if I do our postcode will get picked for the jackpot!
miked999b@reddit
This is a powerful argument to never start. I sometimes think about giving it a go but that thought makes me not.
NuclearMaterial@reddit
I occasionally play the lotto, and always do random numbers I pick myself every time. If I had set numbers as many people do, that argument would be there and the nagging doubt of "my number coming up" would be a factor in buying more tickets. As it is I do it maybe 4-8 times a year and don't think anything of it.
miked999b@reddit
Absolutely, I was thinking exactly that when I wrote it. I do lucky dips on Euromilllions for the same reason. Suspect once you enter the postcode lottery you're psychologically locked in!
cooprobe@reddit
My Nan’s postcode just won the 1m jackpot
NuclearMaterial@reddit
🎶"Someone's (not) knockin' at the dow"
Kryptotek-9@reddit
Oof
Poo_Poo_La_Foo@reddit
If anyone fancies explaining like I'm five, go for it. To me it juts sounds like a scam. In no small party because how shitty the adverts are.
vshere32@reddit
🎵🎵 “Someone’s knockin at the dow…” 🎵🎵
NuclearMaterial@reddit
As soon as I read the post title this was in my head.
originalwombat@reddit
The purpose of the lottery is to raise funds for charity. 30% is a huge amount of money every month to go into the pockets of charities.
The extra cool bit is a chance to win a prize. No, it’s not a huge chance, but it’s a chance.
meatypinkness@reddit
Ads are shite I do agree. Have won a couple times though (only small) but I know someone who got 6 figures so definitely not a scam.
Had better luck with them than lotto
anomalous_cowherd@reddit
No more than most lotteries I'd say. You have a reasonable chance of winning a small prize and a negligible chance of winning a huge one. Don't do it if you can't afford to throw most of your stake money away forever.
Appropriate-Bag5290@reddit
I won £10 last year and a £5 Morrisons voucher.
HappyClam99@reddit
Not last year but my Dad won a couple of weeks ago - you could choose a gift from a selection of candles/coffee mugs/scarfs/ books. Crazy scenes.
TheRainbowFluffyone@reddit
I won a £5 Sainsbury's voucher..... And I pay £12 a month !
Prudent_Ask_1616@reddit
Won £12 and a panni press.
Trentdison@reddit
I won £15 on Friday.
Won a few vouchers for stuff, tat in the post, other small cash wins here and there. Best was some wireless earbuds I stopped using because they kept falling out my ear.
Not got my money's worth though.
That's what they mean by 85% of players have won. They've won just slightly above fuck all.
ermCaz@reddit
My dad won £30,000 on it
DMMMOM@reddit
We've had quite a number of wins, biggest one was about £500. Most of them were small amounts.
rebelallianxe@reddit
I've won several tenners and 15 quid over the last 5 years. I realise you probably mean a big prize, though.
88Jewels@reddit
They probably class the winners as the people who win all the random shit like water bottles and hotel chocolat hot chocolate. And the tenners. Thats all I've won anyway!
DarkangelUK@reddit
I won two pairs of grippy socks, I think I've peaked.
bensuffolk@reddit
If they were the bamboo ones, I won them too. And previously a choice of a gift set. Never any cash though.
CrossRoadChicken@reddit
Imagine being the 15% who don't even win anything
Psychological-Plum10@reddit
That would be me.
DaveBacon@reddit
Those prizes sound like luxury, I won some tea bags!
SpoonerUK@reddit
My mate won 140k last year the lucky bastard. Best i've won is 65 quid on the Lottery, and that was back in 1994.
a4991@reddit
I won a fiver for Sainsbury’s maybe three times over the course of 2 years playing
Pitiful-Buddy-77@reddit
Just looked up my post code recent winnings. Last time was 01/12/2025 £5 gift card 😕
thecornflake21@reddit
I started playing around 2022. I won £1000 a few months after and then I've had about 15 £10 wins. It varies hugely though, I do know a few people who've won nothing over the same time.
Flash__PuP@reddit
I’ve won £15 twice since Christmas. I keep meaning to cancel but I know my numbers will come up a week later.
Worried_Suit4820@reddit
Yes; 4 people in the next postcode - one digit off mine - shared £1m last year.
Heinrick_Veston@reddit
Won some socks at Christmas, damn good socks too!
Necessary-Brain2633@reddit
I won a grand once a few years ago. Nice surprise through the post in a golden envelope. Since then it’s been very quiet, with my monthly subscription slowly chipping away my win!
Youtalkingtomyboobs@reddit
I won £15 this week and have had a handful of other prizes - £5 gift voucher, £10 amazon voucher and some hand cream to help with exit!! Been playing for a number of years now, and keep considering leaving….
TheSecretIsMarmite@reddit
A colleague of mine won £30k!
notcopingneedhelp@reddit
My high school bully (and I mean proper bully) won it twice. Big amounts too. Big enough to get her onto the property ladder flipping houses. Now she is minted.
So karma is bullshit.
But I’m happy for her. She had a shit upbringing and now she has a beautiful life and a beautiful family.
(I think £90k over the two wins)
ThrowawaySunnyLane@reddit
Yes. Someone I work with from a nearby postcode won a 5, possibly 6 figure amount (South Yorkshire area). I think it was 6 figure. About a year to 18 months ago.
I don’t play myself.
irv81@reddit
I used to play it.
Cost £10 a month and I won £10 about 3 to 4 times a year
KingKhram@reddit
I've won twice, 1 time was £10 and the second time was 2 bars of soap and some face cream.
VxDeva80@reddit
I won the soap too, it smelt absolutely revolting.
fyremama@reddit
I got the recent 'prize' of seaweed socks, they smelt horrific
miked999b@reddit
Which was best? 🤔
max1304@reddit
Across the street (different postcode) won around £80K per ticket. One house had 3!
We joined up the following month and have had a voucher or two, <£30 in total I think
welshgirl0987@reddit
Yes my mate won a grand.
Tomo28@reddit
I won a Tony's Chocolate selection box. Didn't even know that was possible.
catssocksandcoffee@reddit
A lovely friend from school won £150k a few years ago and a guy who sat behind me in my old job won around £200k. Another guy I know won £30k and my sister in law won £1k once. Meanwhile, I won a £5 gift card before Christmas, kerching.
GBrunt@reddit
I won small prizes or cash in July, August, September, twice in November and again December last year. But before that, I hadn't won anything since August 2023.
fyremama@reddit
Yes I have won, just a few months ago. It wasn't a life changing amount but was a nice surprise nonetheless.
Aside from the money I've also won some random things like socks, frying pans and chocolates
Readytogo2day@reddit

a friend's parents won it. if they signed a document they'd get paid extra to be in an advert but their other son who lives with them, well lets just say he had a massive breakdown while the crew were setting up and he had to be carted off to A and E! so his parents missed out on the extra money which is funny cause it ls all they care about. he kept singing excited that knocking on your door song again and again and the production people realised 'ahh ok he's a bit unstable...' and he got uppity over that and things went a jeremy kyle..

I stopped playing then a few weeks later our street won the 'everyone gets £5k each' thing. Fuming.
Someone who used to live in our house obviously still plays because we received a gold envelope in the post for them. Bastards.
Plastic_Truth3053@reddit
I’m very ashamed to say I mistakenly subscribed to this, I thought it was for three months, but they took out three payments from my account per month. I found it VERY hard to unsubscribe when I realised. I didn’t win anything

Colleague won a few weeks ago. Had some ceremony with davina mcall (cant be bothered to check spelling). Think she won about 20k.
gibgod@reddit
Yeah won £12 once last year. Which is one monthly payment. Feel like I’m taxed for life now though because if my street won - it would be in the local rag and I’d be gutted if I dropped out now and saw that. But at least a third goes to charity, so I feel like I’m giving a bit to charity in doing it I suppose.

I've won £15 and a £5 voucher. You have reminded me i need to cancel it
missmars12@reddit
£5 M&S voucher, a Tony's Chocolate bar, an Amazon Kindle from the quiz game, £15 quid. Started last June!
TTTC123@reddit
My 7 year old talked me into joining a couple of months ago after seeing the adverts. I humoured him and thought why not and signed up. Been part of 2 draws. £12.50 a month. The first month I won a £10 Tesco voucher and the second month I won £15.
pablohacker2@reddit
my folks won a sort of Tupperware thing you can wang in the oven.

I've won a couple of £5 vouchers in the last year and that's even playing the word game and the quiz every morning. Husband just has fomo in case ours came up and the neighbours won.
CFDyce@reddit
My mum got a £5 M&S voucher. That god no one else in her postcode plays. Imagine splitting that prize!
originalwombat@reddit
You wouldn’t be splitting that. Each person would get £5 per ticket. If your mum had 2 tickets she would have got a tenner. Her neighbour with three tickets £15
CrossRoadChicken@reddit
Sometimes jokes are better left as jokes
originalwombat@reddit
It’s not a joke. It’s a strong misconception about how the postcode lottery works. That many people share, and it stops them from playing. More players is more money for charity so happy to clear it up.

Spent 60 quid so far, have won 45 quid (15 quid 3 times)
From what I now understand, people buy tickets for postcodes with no residential buildings as you don't need to buy them for the property you own or live in, and it means you'd be less likely to share the winnings. This seems like a better idea.
BobMonroeFanClub@reddit
The people who live in the postcode ONE DIGIT different to ours won £30k each. The swines.
AwkwardDuddlePucker@reddit
I win about once a year - normally enough to cover next month's ticket or a gift voucher. Still waiting for the big one 🤡
perfectlyclear69@reddit
Mum won £1000, lucky for her as she had moved home and hadn't updated the postcode.
I have won a couple of tenners and two £5 gift cards, been playing for about five years so not great.

Annual-Cookie1866@reddit
Won £15 three times last year. It’s coming.
Kudosnotkang@reddit
There’s a range of prizes I fairly recently looked at the odds and in no way did ininterpret it as “85% of people have won 10s of thousands of pounds” I interpreted it as a high number of people get a small prize like their monthly subscription back and then the bigger prizes are something like a postcode code per month
But yes to answer the question I do know someone that’s won over £50k on it and I’ve won lots of the crappy small prizes
Marble-Boy@reddit
I met a guy from Birmingham when I was in Ibiza. He moved house and then got a phone call saying he'd won it at his old address. They didn't care that he'd moved house either, so he just went to get his cheque.
He finished his story and said, "I know. You've got that 'I don't believe you' look on your face. What do you want? Proof?!"
And then he pulled his phone out and pulled up a video of him getting his cheque!
Other than that? No. My nan did it for 25 years and won fk all.

BUT, my father won big once. I can't quite remember the amount as it was like over 10 years ago, but it was in the low tens of thousands I think.

I win the £10 daily draw every few months, so occasionally the tickets pay for themselves, and I've won a couple of vouchers which I've never used. Never won the big money though. My assumption has always been that generally more affluent areas, like my poscode (which is not to say I'm affluent myself), can't win the big money. But in my view the point is the charity, not the winning
