What can be done about women’s bathrooms?

I’ve been on the tourist trail in London these last few days, done museums, theatres, large attractions. One thing I’ve noticed wherever I go is the long queue for the ladies’ toilets where there is zero for the men’s. You’ve probably heard the old chestnut about equality vs equity: equality would be having the same number of, or same space given over to, men’s and women’s facilities, this probably broadly happens. Equity is equally meeting the needs of two groups even if one requires disproportionate input. Venues need to have more women’s facilities to recognise that women have more/different bathroom needs to meet and might take longer; women also disproportionately bear caring responsibilities so are more often with the children. I dare say aside from sports venues, women just go to some places more too. That being said most venues now have a fixed layout so I think inertia will dominate and this is now just a forever problem. But say for new buildings, do you think there should be a regulation that more space has to be given over to women’s bathrooms? Or what else do you think can be done?
