Northern Irish. Some find it harsh but I bloody love it... Sadly I live in the South West so all I ever hear is Bristolian or people from Swindon pretending to be cockney.

I'm a fan of the ~Northern Irish accent of the "Loose Cannon Veteran" character as voiced by Emma Ballantine in Warhammer 40K: Darktide https://youtu.be/xtkIDUPep-k?si=SRZjz3Yr0q16TX02 https://youtu.be/ion9zu2U4as?si=27RPnarccO--TYCg Pretty sure a real Northern Irish person could pick it apart, but it sounds good.

My family are all from North Yorkshire and I'm still here but my brother moved to Cheltenham about 15 years ago. His accent has totally gone, the only trace that shows him as a northerner is that he doesn't pronounce "bath" as barth. When he says "no" it sounds like nehw. Makes me wince.
View on Reddit #76940891

As someone with a Yorkshire accent that lived in Plymouth for a bit, I find this comforting as I thought my accent was weird lol In Plymouth they would take the piss out of me being a northerner, I'd go home and they'd take the piss saying I'd started speaking like a janner ha

Back in the 90's, one of my second cousins moved from Edinburgh to one of the most remote islands, taking his wife and teenage kids with him. I think the divorce papers landed in his lap within six months, lol. He stayed there on his own, as he vibed with the locals, nature, all that good stuff. It's not exactly an ideal place for most 'worldly mainlanders', though. My grandma told me 'oh, the teacher from the school has retired, you should apply' (I was a trainee teacher at the time). Singular teacher, singular school. It all sounded a bit too Wicker Man to younger me, but looking back, I wish I'd gone for it.. Pretty much zero competition for a job for life, and more fresh air than you can shake a stick at.

I’m an old fart from the Black Country and I can remember when Welsh accents were almost as despised as my own. Now a lot of folks love it. (Which is great btw) Serious question- any theories on how this change happened? Cerys Matthew’s perhaps? Or was it something to do with Welsh rugby success? To my mind appreciation of Welsh accents and culture seems to have increased a lot since the turn of the century but I can’t put my finger on what the catalyst was. Genuinely interested.

Well, I still get the piss taken out of me, who is now on the south coast and have pretty much entirely lost my west mids accent (apart from when I’m drunk or when I don’t say “grars” instead of “grass”. Thats the worst. I grew up there but my grandparents’ generation looked down upon it. They made sure we spoke well, not posh but definitely not Scouse. Probably middle-class Lancashire would best describe it. I was picked on at school because of this, but this just made me even more determined not talk like this. I can still imitate it perfectly though I haven’t lived there for 50 years. We tend to do it as a family joke to take the piss Liverpool people can be warm and friendly and very caring, they can also be the opposite and be vicious and thug like.

I've heard there maybe fraud going on inside your bank account. If you give me your card details, expiry date, security code, postcode, date of birth and mother's maiden name, I can have a look for you. Not all scousers will con you out of money, they are the out of towners not to be confused with a real scouser.

The more extreme the accent is the worse it sounds to me. But at a middling level quite a few of them sound great. There was a Liverpudlian girl on my Uni course and she had the most beautiful sing-song accent, her singing a lullaby would have put me straight to sleep.

I love all accents. Though I’m a public school southerner, I’ve lived in the north for had my life. Particular favourites up here are: south Liverpool (not as harsh as some scouse accents) and Wigan. Wigan in particular has the benefit of coming with its own dialect, which should’ve protected at all costs. Further afield, Birmingham and the West Midlands. Those accents have a real sense of being rooted deep in the earth.
View on Reddit #76638427

This is the first time I’ve ever seen someone not from Liverpool recognise the difference between the north and south Liverpool accents here. I'm from the eastern edge of London/Essex border area. It's not a lyrical accent for sure, neither are most genuine London accents, if you can find one. I like soft Scottish best....like Carol Kirkwood... Not Glaswegian Soft southern Irish is nice .... like Terry Wogan (that's not strictly in UK though, and his was probably softened further at the BBC) Also smaller town Lancashire, Rochdale. Oldham, certainly not Liverpool. Manchester is ok. Suffolk and Norfolk are nice where the real local accent persists In the North East the softer accents of Westside, and Teeside are easier on the ear than Geordie, but Geordie is ok too. I active in East Sussex and have done for 40 years. There are people from all over the place here. In all that time I've only known about 4 old people who were born here who have a proper East Sussex accent, which is very rural./agricultural sounding. It's been lost as a result of TV and the migration away from London. I don't think it would be easy to pinpoint someone now as being from East Sussex from their accent.

My favourite accent as well. My parents both had late RP/SSB accents: my father studiously removed his Great Yarmouth accent to sound more educated and mum was from a fairly upper class RAF family and lived in many places so had no real trace of a local accent. I spoke pretty much as they did but people around me when I grew up (in Merseyside) spoke Scouse, so it makes me feel like home. The Great Yarmouth accent comes second for similar reasons.

There are slight variations to it between Norfolk and Suffolk, but broadly the East Anglian accent. Growing up Great Yarmouth, I was surrounded by it, but when I moved further south into north Essex a few years ago I realised how much I missed it and how nuanced it was (highlighted by how rare it is to ever see a non-East Anglian accurately replicate it in media), and was delighted to meet the odd older Essex person who retained it rather than the Estuary accent Essex is now more famous for.
