Matlock Bath is essentially a seaside promenade in the middle of Derbyshire.  Chippies, arcades and ice cream shops and pretty much nothing else.

It’s such a weird place. And absolutely full of bikers as well

And classic cars.

Is it always like that? I went one day last year and it was full of bikers and people dressed as pirates. Thought it might be a special weekend. Such an odd place.

NoTrouble7349@reddit

Yes, there are always bikers. There are lots of big meet ups there at weekends, but any day you go, you will see bikers.

You're forgetting that weird hologram museum thing that's part of the aquarium.

Spent the night of my 10th anniversary in Matlock Bath having a chippy and going to the arcade 😂

More people need to experience matlock bath, the descriptions just don't sound real. But they are lol

Gulliver's Kingdom (one of the better ones), a decent - for the price - aquarium, Heights of Abraham Plus, the Riverside Kiosk does some cracking breakfast sandwiches. Some decent boozers, too tbf

Hollingworth Lake! To my knowledge it used to be a Victorian-era destination.. so nowadays you just have this random lake in Rochdale that a row of amusements and the like around it

crawf85@reddit

I know of two. There's one in Matlock Bath, a pretty standard one if I'm remembering correctly. There is an old nostalgic arcade between Bradford and Keighley at a garden centre I believe. https://www.woodbanknurseries.com/old-penny-arcade/

Matlock Bath is bizarre....it's like a small seaside town got caught in a tornado and dumped in the peak district!
View on Reddit #76670924

Infamous-Ordinary-39@reddit

There's at least 3 at Matlock Bath.

Yeah and that fish emporium type place, couple quid entry fee to see them
View on Reddit #76669264

HatlessCarlos@reddit

I'll second the arcade at Bingley. It's a fun visit and you can spend a lot of time playing for a few quid.

There used to be a load at Wicksteed Park, in Kettering. No clue if they're still there.

Billing Aquadrome used to have one as well but I think it's closed down now.
View on Reddit #76638668

heyyouupinthesky@reddit

New owners seem to be spending a fair bit getting the place updated, I'd be surprised if there's no arcade.

My granny used to take me there in the 1970s. Back when the massive slides were about 50ft tall and made of wood.

Omg they were there in the 80s when I went as a kid. The rocking ship was new then and legit terrifying.

There used to be a fair and arcade at Billing Aquadrome years ago. Not sure if it's there now as it's been bought out.

Haven caravan parks entertainment complexes generally have amusements like this. Or at least they did when I was last at one about 10 years ago.
View on Reddit #76626805

ingutek@reddit

I work at haven sites. Yes they do, but they have replaced all the flooring at every site with lino, instead of the old pub style grotty carpet, which I feel takes away from the vibe immensely.

There's a village just outside Rochdale called Smithybridge, where there's a reservoir called Hollingsworth lake. There's sea side style amusements there. Actually the main road through has full sea side vibes, amusements, fish and chips, ice cream etc, except it's in the middle of the Pennines.

Little bit out of the box but if you're interested in retro and vintage arcade check out the penny arcade at Woodbank Nurseries garden centre in Bingley. Lots of fun.
