Parents of UK Reddit: Where do you get your kids' school shoes?

The teenager is in need of new school shoes Previous years he's had Doc Martens, but the current build quality makes them no longer worth the cost. I don't want to break the bank, and I don't want to suffer from the Sam Vimes economic theory...

Are they still growing? When they are younger you need reasonable quality so they last and the feet grow properly, when your feet stop growing you can get into buying quality so they last longer. In between, our kids feet grew out of shoes at least once, sometimes twice a school year so quality wasn't an issue, a Primark pair would have outlasted their growth. Once into men's sizes Next had the best quality vs price we found. £40ish for a pair, which is less than we paid for Geox/Startrite when they were little!

Mine have been wearing Kickers Fragma school shoes for ages. They go sub-£40 occasionally and i've got price trackers that tell me when! Obviously - never when you really want them to have new shoes. We have definitely experienced Sam Vines' boots theory when buying cheap school shoes in the past!

Solovair are made in the old Doc Martens factory and are the closest to the old DM spec.

Depends how old\big your teenager is. If they're still growing I would definitely just get cheap shoes, if they don't destroy them, they'll just grow out of them. Solivar make shoes like how DMs used to be but they are knocking on nearly 200 quid, so depends on your budget really. Looking at the DM site it seems they're about the same price point though.
