Go with a car, as the destinations in Eastern Canada will need cars to get to.

Depends on what you mean by 'Eastern' Canada. It's a huge country. If you're referring to places like Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal etc. then you can get around using the train or bus. But if you mean the Maritimes (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI) then your options will be few and far between and renting a car would be ideal.

Eastern Canada is a huge area. You can drive 24 hours and not leave Ontario. Where exactly are you planning on going?
