What exactly is German about GDK?

I've heard of German Doner Kebab, even eaten there, but GDK with no context is still confusing. It's not like they're KFC.

Doner kebab is the food in Germany that was brought by Turkish immigrants & adopted by the locals as their own. Itd be a bit like a british chain called "british tikka masala" or something.

Doner kebabs are big in Germany and also something you can eat in an actual sit down place. Bit more respectable than the post-club 3am reputation they have in the UK. So presumably it's marketing to make doner kebab something people eat in a sit down place at any time of day.

The kebabs are of Turkish origin and there is a large Turkish diaspora in Germany, so you get dynamite kebabs in Germany.
