Alright. 12 - 10.6 is 1.4 - Go fly around for an hour and a half and don’t log it. And do something *useful* with the hours - work on your commercial maneuvers or something. Penance served. Time reconciled. Also going forward? Log what the Hobbs or instrument panel clock time is for the flight and be done with it. Don’t round up or down, just log the numbers as they are.

My CFI used to round down here and there too. “Call it XYZ” and he’d shave a tenth off regardless of how the number read. I’m like ok, sure I have to pay like 20 bucks less today but I’ll just have to pay it later this week.

Technically since I rounded down on ground instruction, I did round down on what I got paid. But then again, instructing isn’t my day job and I know how expensive training is for new kids. His logbook was legit, but FSP generally showed something less.

I rounded down my hours of ground instruction given when I had a student getting his PPL. I was in his shoes many moons ago and he had a good, eager attitude towards flying, so I gave him a discount. If he showed up at 10:01, then I started the clock at 10:15. If we finished debriefing at 13:59, I stopped the clock at 13:45.

1: your CFI is a dumbass and did you a disservice. 2: IMO you can either just forget it, or make a new entry subtracting the time. Don't get a new logbook, that's overkill. You actually flew the airplane, it's not like you were that guy who logged random airplanes he saw on flightradar24, and just so happened to log their DPE's airplane....

I know of a DPE going in for a checkride looked over the books and asked “when did you fly ____” and the guy came up with some bs and the DPE said “I don’t recall letting you fly MY plane…” Moron was logging planes he saw taking off from the airport and logged the DPE’s personal plane 💀

I had something very similar happen, although I was correct. Two DA-40 planes with sequential tail numbers. Both flew out of the same airport for around a year or so, then one got moved (by the owner) to an airport around 20 miles away. Talking with someone and told them I did a good chuck of my PPL training in that plane. They were very interested in hearing how I trained in that plane, but they had never met me and I didn't know the school it was being used at. Turns out, most didn't know it was at another local airport prior to going to this other one. Glad I am an honest person.

Lol it was harmless all things considered. He mapped out a ridiculous solo XC involving doing maneuvers over his house right next to a Bravo. He asked Reddit if this seemed reasonable. Reddit was a mix of "no" and "ask your CFI." I said no. The airspace and path was very distinct so I knew it was him immediately. We laughed about it, he went on to crush PPL and IR

If you’re planning on going to the airlines, you should really be considering using an electronic logbook anyway. So if you still have access to all your CFIs, you could create an electronic logbook, get all of their signatures and endorsements electronically, and never really need the paper ones again. It’s a good idea regardless.

So your CFI took 10.6 hours away but then you padded your hours for about 12 hours, do that your total hours is only off by about 1.4? Did I understand that correctly? Just stop doing any of that, count all hours going forward accurately and honestly, and move forward. But if you want to feel more honest, then do your commercial at 262 hours rather than 250. But don’t tie yourself up in knots over this. Just do better.

Intentional falsification of logbook entries is a part 3 violation. You’ve already falsified an 8710 form for your instrument, so if the DPE on your commercial ride catches it in the prequal they will make it their personal mission in life to crush you like a grape, and I know someone that this happened to. ‘Slipped through the cracks’ is bullshit, you need to take some personal responsibility for your actions. If you are ever investigated for it even if no administrative action is taken it will be like a scarlet letter on your PRD and you will never, ever get hired anywhere, especially in this market. Falsification or even allegations thereof is the most repugnant thing you can possibly have on your rap sheet, and is the aviation equivalent of being a chomo. Correct the ones since your instrument ride, and don’t ever do it again and don’t ever mention it to anyone again.

At least within an insignificant margin of error. Two moronic decisions cancel each other out. I happily "round down" the \*ground\* time when I think someone deserves a bit of savings. Are you sure this was not the case? Rounding down \*flight\* time would be idiotic from both a pilot and a business perspective. Just don't worry about it and move on. The Hobbs meter is pretty darn accurate. Everywhere I instruct has a written record of Hobbs and tach start/stop times. Not sure how you would manage a "round down mentality" rolling forward flight after flight after flight. Go forth and sin no more. No one likes a liar or an idiot.

Considering you're only net 1.4 over or so I'd probably just do a line that's crossed out asides from the remarks and hour column, and in the remarks write "times corrected for errors" and then -1.4 under the appropriate column and go forward with the correct times. I think I have this twice in my logbook, the difference is that I actually referenced where those errors were made as I was cross checking it with a digital logbook.

I haven't updated my logbook in seven years. This isn't even a long time; I've gone longer. I have no idea what will go in it when it gets updated: some average percentage of night and actual, God knows who landed five years ago in Honolulu, and if an approach was shot to mins. There are probably thousands of hours unlogged from being a kid to now over 40 years of flying. Stick with it and eventually you will undo your wrongs as your unlogged times accumulate.
