the question is, will they still sandbag

Does that mean we get sick rolling startup sounds like the Caddies have?

BrisketAggie@reddit

Coyotes are notoriously loud on startup, so I would expect so.

God imagine they use an exhaust that same edgar put on his clapped out takeover 5.0

And it will be 5.4 liters according to the article. Could a 5.4 liter Coyote be next for the Mustang? 🌚

cattywampus42@reddit

Ford should never make another 5.4 again lmao

The 07-12 GT500s had a 4v 5.4...was that a bad engine?

isaac99999999@reddit

Assuming that's the same 5.4 Triton that went into the trucks.. yeah that's a pretty bad engine
View on Reddit #76033368

Przedrzag@reddit

The trucks had 2v and 3v 5.4s

Not sure about the 07-12, but the 4v 5.4s in Lincoln’s loved blowing intake gaskets which are a pain to change

I_amnotanonion@reddit

Even the best 5.4s (the 2 valve) have a caveat to add when trying to defend them. I say this as the owner of one

To be fair, basically every engine that’s considered ā€œreliableā€ in history has at least one or two things to watch for. The 5.9 Cummins has the killer dowel pin, the series 2 gm 3800 has intake gasket issues, and the olds 350 diesel had the olds 350 diesel to look out for.

Hey there was 1 year with the 5.4 had zero issues and it was 2003. They fixed the spark plug issue with 8 threads heads but kept the old school 5.4. Then in 2004 it went to the new generation and all bets were off. Only 2004 that still had the old motor was the lightning.

B-b-b-but… they sounded so good 😭

my neighbors disagree. my friend decided to leave my house rev bombing his 5.4 missing the muffler

It's a completely different 5.4 lol.

I imagine a few garage mechanics had 'Nam level flashbacks seeing 5.4

Their CEO said their racing efforts will have a direct influence on things like future supercars. So my guess is we'll get a 5.4 in a third Gen gt, but a mustang could also be a likely choice.

Riverrattpei@reddit

If any Mustang was going to have the 5.4 it would have been the GTD since the Mustang GT3 it's "based on" already uses the 5.4

815 hp in a 4300 lbs car has a similar power to weight ratio as 550 hp in a 2800 lbs car. They had to go with the predator to make the car lively.

Same 5.4 that's already being used in the mustang gt3. It's not unusual for gt3 car motors to be bored out compared to their road going homologated counterparts. Iirc the 911 gt3 r ( the race car) uses a 4.2 litre flat six, based off the 4.0 flat six in the street gt3 rs and gt3, which is the car used to homologate that motor.

They've already been using 5.4l's in GT3 and Aussie Supercar for a few years now so I doubt it

Personally I was hoping for a aluminum block version of the Ford Godzilla engine but I am not complaining, the Coyote is a great engine. Now along with the Cadillac, we will have 2 deep rumbling V8 hypercars

American muscle. We’re only missing Dodge’s Hemi but that’s not gonna happen.

it'd have a lifter tick by the first lap
View on Reddit #75987483

SnikySquirrel@reddit

When that happens it’s usually cause of long idle hours like on cop cars. Pretty much the opposite of Le Mans.

GT3RS_2017@reddit

My buddy said a truck came to service at the dealer he a tech at. 1500 miles and like 30 total hours on it and it already had a tick.

At a glance, I read this as "it'd have the ick by the first lap" and somehow it still made perfect sense.

Is this any relation to the one in the gt3 or the supercar?

Sounds like the same basic engine as the GT3 just hopped up to make LMH power.

Siiiick. I love a good crossover.Ā

Now that sounds like a great recipe for another Ford GT road car. Get the V8 back in there. Ford's already played around with hybrid motors that can be tacked onto the transmission, so that would be another great use for the application. They could even do that for a Mustang. Shame the 'Mach-E' name was already used, would've been great for an actual Mustang with EV or hybrid assistance.

I’ve wanted Ford to make a Hybrid v8 Mustang I really hope they do. The new Lambo is a Hybrid and it’s amazing

They seem to follow Caddy's route on going with the big NA engine. Hopefully this decision would do well on them.

Well the Mustang GT3 and GT4 have used the coyote to great effect, and they do sound absolutely lovely, so I had no doubt they were going to use that! I mean, I wouldn't have complained if they had given the GTE's controversial but beastly V6 song a reprise but this is even better imo.Ā
