I posted awhile back about a truck cap I got from Alibaba in China and I had lots of questions about it so I thought I'd share a long term review / questions answering video with ya'll! LONG TERM REVIEW (Click here)

Its one of the lasting mysteries of modern e-commerce

Did you order the steel or aluminum, and have you experienced any concerns with the strength of it and the weight on top?
grheith@reddit (OP)
Aluminum and no problems so far.

I appreciate the heads up - just got mine on, gonna black RTV the seams to be safe.
You have any weight on your yet or have crossbars ?
grheith@reddit (OP)
Mine came with the cross bars when I ordered the tent and cap

How did the tariff situation play out ordering from China?
theonesixsix@reddit
When I got mine back in October, the tarrif was included in the price. I was surprised.
Oak510land@reddit
From the stuff on r/tariffs it sounds like a real gamble. I haven't ordered anything from AliExpress, Temu etc since the tariff bs started.

I posted on the video, but will post similar here as well. For comparison, the SmartCap Defender for my Gladiator cost $3840 with freight. No windows on my model. South African made but shipped from US distributor. No RTT and racks. So well over double the cost of what looks like the same build as the Alibaba. I did get it in about 10 days though. :)
Thanks for the video! Loved the response to the guy who toasted you about the wife and kids! :)

I have the Smartcap, so the expensive version. Assuming the latches are the same, I drilled out a spot on the back of the latches that gave me access to pop them open from inside with a screwdriver.

Oh interesting! Would love to see that!
