Which part of your trip to China did you enjoy the most?

I just came back from visiting for the first time and it was an incredible experience. I loved visiting the Old food joints in Jingan and the former French Concession area, paying with everything using Alipay.

The people, particularly outside of big cities like Shanghai/Beijing. I study Chinese and almost without fail people are amazed that I've put in the effort and are extremely friendly.

Watching the Dragon Boar Festival races. Being complimented on my fluent Chinese in one restaurant after walking in as a solo traveller and seeing the panic stricken staff assume they’re going to have to deal with trying to communicate in English. All the photo ops.

Great Wall and Terracotta Army are the two things that took my breath away. Two of the most popular things obviously but for good reason. I liked everywhere I went. Shanghai was easy. Beijing a totally different vibe. And then going out to the cities in the provinces which nobody visits which are pretty rough to be honest. It’s really challenging travelling sometimes there. Especially in the days before smartphones.
