Did your parents get scammed into a Rainbow vacuum?

Just curious if this was my family alone or if other Xennial parents got swooned over by the Rainbow vacuum salesman. You basically paid 500 dollars in 1990 (about 1250 today), for a vacuum cleaner that required filling a water bucket after each vacuum session. You then had to take the water bucket and empty it outside, every time. I live in Minnesota, its cold here, you can guess who was always emptying the stupid bucket. I hated this vacuum! Turns out that the water tank offers no real benefit and they created the system to get around paying for the patent in regular style vacuums. Go figure.
