Seized Transmission Cable? 2006 Lincoln Zephyr.

I have deduced that my cable is seized. The transmission lever easily rolls through PRNDL at the transmission. But the cable is seized and the shifter wont move because of it. The shifter button actuates the solenoid or whatever it is, i can hear the click when i engage the button. the manual shift release doesnt work. How would i replace the cable to return full shifting capabilities to the car?

It's been a long time since I've replaced one. But you're going to have to take the console apart and make your first foray into acrobatics to pass it through the firewall and to the transmission.

Whats the process? Disconnect the cable on the shifter side and transmission side, and just feed a new one in and connect it at both ends, make sure its properly adjusted and its done?
