What is it with old people and the wind or weather in general?

My mom will sit and read back whatever AccuWeather has in their app. When I leave, she asks me if that old wind is still blowing.... I have a friend that knew Abe Lincoln. She refuses to leave the house at the slightest drizzle. Moans about it being "yucky" outside. She complains about the wind to. Says she's going out and hopes the wind doesn't "blow her away". This person has short, almost buzz cut like hair do. The shockwave off a nuclear detonation isn't moving her hair. My dad spouts the weather report back too me. What the hell is it with old people and the weather?
