The Bermuda Depths

I must have been 9 years old when I saw this on TV, but for decades, it stuck with me. I barely remember it, but I still feel it at 56.
In another post on this sub, someone asked about media that influenced you, but I think this film deserves its own consideration.
I couldn't even remember the name, but then I thought, "hey, maybe ChatGPT can help."
So my prompt was to find a TV movie from the late 1970s that took place at sea and had a sea monster in it (I even forgot that it was a turtle). I also wrote that it was more a drama than a sci-fi movie.
ChatGPT found it in under 10 seconds. I just ordered the DVD from Amazon and I can't wait to rematch it and figure out why it stuck with me so strongly after almost 50 years.
Anyone else see this? What did you think about it?

I also remember seeing that movie back in the day. Also 56. It really stayed with me also. It had a trippy mix of Sci Fi and supernatural. I remember Apollo Creed being in it (Carl Weathers) and the girl (Connie Selleca) I recognized on TV later in the 80s. The movie just had something about it. Like another comment said "haunting". The giant turtle with the lovers initials on it at the end........with Carl Weathers in tow.

Im 57 and this was a pivotal movienin my youth also. My brother found this on DVD last year. All I mentioned was a giant sea turtle, B stars , somewhere off an island, and jarring ending. Reading the IMDB page is so memory jogging. Can't wait to watch again.
Actually felt like its a prime candidate for MST 3000 .

I'm 58 and this movie has haunted me for 48 of those years. But just today I re-watched the whole thing and now I understand why I was so sad about what happened to "Apollo Creed" at the end. šš¤£š
A Jenny Haniver is a fake mermaid/sea creature relic.

There are tens of thousands of us that seen it on TV, then all these years later, came to the internet to search it out. Something about the theme song and the movie itself that stuck with all of us from the creepy 1970's. I also kind of associated it with the Andy Gibb song "Love is Thicker Than Water" Then found out that he was on Donny and Marie right before the movie and sang that song!

UPDATE
I got it! Going to go watch it tonight or tomorrow. I'll update this post later, if anyone is interested.

Same. The memory of this movie haunted me for years, to the point where I thought perhaps I imagined the entire thing because nobody else I ever spoke to remembered it.

Right? Me too, I thought I dreamt it as well. So weird. Well, the DVD arrives today. I can't wait to see what about it made it stick so hard.

It's the music. The music, Connie Selleck's glowing eyes, and the turtle

What a great poster!

The ending haunted me since the night I saw it on one of the big three stationās āMovie of the Weekā nights when I was around 8 years old. Been a fan of Carl Weathers ever since.

Was in Bermuda around 77/78 and my family met Carl Weathers who was making this movie. I was around 8. He put me on his shoulders lol.

Did he pass on any stew recipes?

A teenaged wraith with her demonic pet turtle. Love it!

I remember seeing this back when the Bermuda Triangle was a thing. Kinda weird to think that this was made by the same studio that made Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Reindeer.

I just remembered that I had a huge crush on Connie Selleca for a while in the late 70s.
I wonder now if that contributed to my attraction to a girl of the same name a few years later.
Retro self-analysis is not a productive practice.
