What price do you put on a badge?

Regarding the Black Series and much of this conversation, I think we're making similar points, but viewing it through a different lens? So the way I see it is this : if they want to just compete with the rs (the undisputed king, by a tremendous margin), they either need to be better significantly or they need to be priced in a way to attract sales. No doubt people will buy these, but selling cars from a limited run isn't the same as establishing a name for yourself, maybe a brand or a vision, and having the public beat your door down to own it. We keep discussing the r8, so let's use it as an example. You don't have to love the r8, no issue, but the original was an absolute gamechanger. It was essentially a step up over the competition when it hit, it was competitively priced, and it really brought a lot of interest and love to audi. At the time, the r8 was a big, big deal and it lasted for 15 or so years because of that. Compare that to the Black Series? Who talks about it? Who says it's the greatest car in it's class, or it's a classic, or it's a big deal? Mercedes pushed it's track numbers and then nobody really talked about it ever again. Yes, it's rare and holds value, no debate, but it isn't like that car drove people to Mercedes or made a big deal for the company, like the r8 did. So using that framework for the Ford, will this propel Ford forward? Will this help create a sports line, will it kill 911 sales? Will an American supercar become dominant? At 300k base, aside from diehard Ford fans, who is choosing it over a 911? A Lamborghini? A Ferrari? I find that very, very implausible personally, although I'd frankly love to be wrong. I'd love Ford to crush this and do cool stuff, but the last GT was a similar missed opportunity and it feels to me like the price is too high and their goals are too low, frankly. It'll be fun to watch, either way.
