/r/all is gone again, are there any alternatives that bring it back?

I cannot imagine scrolling tiktok for the fucking news or current events of all things.
jmanresu@reddit
If you capitalize the A in /r/All while using your mobile browser, it still works: Make sure you’re switched to the “old Reddit” option first though..
MrWeirdoFace@reddit
I'm still using old.reddit. All still seems to be there, although random stopped working a while back. Keep thinking there's probably a way to create my own random, but haven't looked into it yet.
TJ-LEED-AP@reddit (OP)
4/4: this seems to be the only way to get /r/all to show up on a mobile browser. The interface is shit but it’s okay, atleast it’s not some filtered version of the site.
Howrus@reddit
Subscribe to /r/news and /r/events and read your /home
In general that is a very good idea on Reddit: find subs that fit your tastes and subscribe to them instead of scrolling /all
TJ-LEED-AP@reddit (OP)
You also don’t seem to use this app, the subs you are subscribed to do not feed the top stories into your feed and keep them there. It basically feeds /new into your feed from those subs. It has not been the top of your subscribed subreddits in years. That is why /r/all matters.
Howrus@reddit
People suddenly become very angry for me to mentioned that subs, so I removed them.
I meant that you need to find subs you like. Like - over reading /all all this time, surely you noticed that posts that catch your attention come from some specific subs - so you subscribe to this subs.
Why continue to read /all that have mix of trash and good things?
IAmAGenusAMA@reddit
/r/all was how I found many of the subs I am subscribed to.
Howrus@reddit
Of course. When you don't have a lot of subs, it's a good idea to check /all to find new one.
But at some point you'll have enough and will find more subs via recommendations, cross-posts, etc.
IAmAGenusAMA@reddit
That's fair but why not leave /r/all as an option? There is no good reason to remove it other than to make it harder for users to reach outside their engagement bubble.
Howrus@reddit
But do you really need it? All this random news unrelated to your interests and hobbies?
After I stopped reading /all I now sleep better and don't worry about things that are unrelated to me.
anuniononion@reddit
This is a crazy take. Reddit used to be the "front page of the internet". Removing r/all removes the identity of reddit and how I use it a lot of the time. The point of the upvote downvote system is an organic algorithm that's created by the culture of reddit and by extension the internet not an algorithm curated for myself but a glimpse into the collective conscience. API usage removal, this and continuing censorship throughout the platform has driven my want to use reddit to practically zero.
TJ-LEED-AP@reddit (OP)
I stated my reasons why we need /r/all, you can read my comments.
TJ-LEED-AP@reddit (OP)
Those are quite possibly the worst subs for current events with a high degree of recency and “on the ground” style reporting like the first hand recorded videos that we got today. It’s just main stream news slop. /r/events has 160 subscribers.
Howrus@reddit
Yeah, you need to search for subs you like.
For example I read /worldnews and /europe.
Nerd_199@reddit
The main subreddit are astroturf, let alone the power triping mods.
Howrus@reddit
Ok, maybe I worded it incorrectly - you need to find subredditd that you like. Not /r/news specifically.
ulysse333@reddit
Fuck this shit, i hope they bring it back
kaesylvri@reddit
What are you even talking about dude.
All is right where it always is.
Mangozilleh@reddit
It’s gone in my app and even clicking an /r/all link doesn’t work now
bikemaul@reddit
It did if you capitalize r/All
Newtstradamus@reddit
Stepping in to confirm that that is absolutely not accurate
bikemaul@reddit
Both work for me now. Maybe it was the last update that has both working for me again. What's your experience?
TJ-LEED-AP@reddit (OP)
Neither work for me any more
Much_Kangaroo_6263@reddit
Lost mine today. Atrocious.
hardwoodguy71@reddit
Mine disappeared today
ChicagoAuPair@reddit
It’s been selectively disappearing on updates. I had it until just today when it went away literally in the middle of scrolling.
kaesylvri@reddit
I just me part of the A group then, I haven't seen any wonkiness with /all/ so far.
xBaTTeRyAciDx@reddit
No. It is not available via the Reddit app for some users on the most up-to-date version of the app.
CharmiePK@reddit
OP may be right! Last time I had a go here with some redditors because I still had it, but now I don't anymore.
Oh well, tbh this is the least of my problems. Maybe it will help me decrease the amount of time I spend on Reddit and enjoy real life more often!
tunachilimac@reddit
They have officially said in the help or bugs subreddit that it is being phased out. However there are multiple versions of app even if you’re up to date because they test different features and options on groups of users constantly. So you may have it for now but it will go away. You’ll probably notice if you try to view all/top/now that function is broken already and it only shows top of all time.
TJ-LEED-AP@reddit (OP)
Can’t help but think it’s related to or tied to events. Major event happens, suppress news of event. Wait for cooling period. Bring it back. Repeat
tunachilimac@reddit
I think it's about profit. They've done their a/b testing to see that not enough people stop using the app if it's gone to be worth keeping it around. I made a new account recently at work and during the sign up process it asked me to pick some interests. I chose a few just to get through it and go to the home page. However when I changed the url to old reddit my homepage was blank. Whatever they were doing to build my view in the redesign on that new account it didn't involve actually subscribing me to subreddits like has always happened before. I was subscribed to 0 subreddits but had a selection of posts based on the interests I chose.
Ever notice on the app you see mainly just subreddits you've recently visited rather than an actual random sampling from all the subreddits you're subscribed to? It's a completely different experience compared to use the old reddit website.
I don't think it's about suppressing or hiding news or whatever. I think long term the plan is that you don't subscribe to subreddits but instead they algorithmically choose to show you based on what you engage with because in their testing that makes people scroll longer and that means more ads shown.
TJ-LEED-AP@reddit (OP)
For you maybe..

lilB0bbyTables@reddit
On mobile just edit your user profile, click “add socials” then “Reddit” and in the communities text input type
r/allthen save. Then you can click your own user profile and the Reddit social link to bring you to /r/all. This works for me but I cannot get to All by searching for it otherwise.
4_The_Mare_@reddit
r/All
IDeleteRedditYearly@reddit
we will not be censored
TJ-LEED-AP@reddit (OP)
Nice!!!!
taptotheright@reddit
R/All
rimu@reddit
reddit is cooked.
https://piefed.social/ is the next 'front page of the internet'.
finalaccountforreal@reddit
I concur. Piefed is excellent.
AnonomousWolf@reddit
PieFed is great, and it's decentralised so can't ever be controlled by greed
PolishBicycle@reddit
So many furries posts though. Wtf is wrong with people
DarthLeoYT@reddit
Furries run the tech industry. Be a little nicer, yeah?
LoquendoEsGenial@reddit
Oh no...
Definitely Reddit is useless; it's better than any X clone. ...
DarthLeoYT@reddit
I agree with you. Reddit sucks
LoquendoEsGenial@reddit
Even so, Reddit has been useful to me, xd.
So personally, I'm not complaining.
DarthLeoYT@reddit
A useful tool can still be annoying.
Example: passwords, MFA/2fa
But you are correct, reddit is useful especially since it shows first on Google when asking questions
Carrnage_Asada@reddit
Better than a bunch of racist nazis
HexagonWin@reddit
not really, the fediverse is pretty diverse and it really depends on which communities you subscribe to
HotTakes4HotCakes@reddit
Only by its terrible moderation system and controlling admins.
AnonomousWolf@reddit
Not from what I've seen. Can you give an example?
_haha_oh_wow_@reddit
Mbin and Lemmy aren't bad either, and they can all talk to each other!
51noodle_doodle@reddit
Clicking r/All links works but r/all doesnt for me. Also for some reason, one of my accounts has the button but my main doesnt.
1cat22cats333cats@reddit
Lifesaver lol
atempestdextre@reddit
TIL that people apparently use /r/all
Honestly never saw the point in it.
canyoutriforce@reddit
its helpful to see whats trending right now, especially when breaking news hit
TJ-LEED-AP@reddit (OP)
It is the only place where top posts actually stay at the top for multiple subreddits after Reddit changed to their “curated” brainrot version.
Petenid@reddit
What is the stated reason for phasing it out anyway?
Nova_Tango@reddit
Starting to seem like the social media platform are suppressing or trying to surprises our ability to gauge the collective impression of the historical shit show we are watching.
TJ-LEED-AP@reddit (OP)
Ding ding, if we can’t collectively decide something is fucking awful like we have online for the last 20 years then we’re fucked.
Nova_Tango@reddit
Pretty interesting that the conversation everywhere is about ice and this batshit crazy orang dildo and yet not a whisper of anything to hat isn’t propaganda news on popular. FFS
TJ-LEED-AP@reddit (OP)
Anything to distractions from ICE or Epstein
TJ-LEED-AP@reddit (OP)
Fuck if I know
MegaGrubby@reddit
Give you one guess...
TJ-LEED-AP@reddit (OP)
It’s pretty obvious I think
auntie_climax@reddit
Mine never came back! I have to search for threads containing the capitalised link
TJ-LEED-AP@reddit (OP)
Same, it’s gone. Having to use a browser for a core reddit function.
Marashio@reddit
Mine is gone as well. I’m going to significantly be using reddit less if they don’t bring it back
TJ-LEED-AP@reddit (OP)
Genuinely right there with you
topselection@reddit
You'd like reddit way better if you customized your subs. The default subs are filled with bots, secret agents, viral marketers and other manipulators. That's probably why they're phasing out /all.
TJ-LEED-AP@reddit (OP)
/r/all rarely has only the top subs, it’s a collection of a wide variety of view points.
marioncrepes@reddit
It still works for me but I haven't updated the app in a while. I'll probably stop using Reddit after I can't access it, like what's even the point. Between this, awards, trophies, ads, etc this website has gone to shit over the past year, it's embarrassing how far it's fallen. r/all
