Best Dentist In The Area?

I was going to Thrive Dental, until I realized they're corporate and I should avoid corporate.
I've got insurance with Delta Dental (PPO and Premier).
Just looking for someone who's good for regular cleaning and maybe perio maintenance
Who would you recommend?

Sorry, I don’t know him. Seems like you have some good options from this post. Hope you find a dentist you like and trust!

I am a big fan of Dr Shah and his team. Small business, Preston Smiles. Being treated by him for 5 years now. He’s honest and knowledgeable. Also uses the same hygienist 99% of the time and they all make a great team.

I’m a dentist and have so much respect for Dr. Shah! He’s great.
OrganicTomato@reddit
Hi! Would you say that Dr. Shah has a conservative approach and would monitor rather than immediately drill?
My dentist who retired recently was that way. The dentist that bought her practice immediately wanted to drill into 5 teethes. I'm really hoping to find another dentist who has a conservative approach. Let me know? Thanks!
LucyHobbsTaylor@reddit
I’d say he’s conservative but won’t let things that need treatment go untreated. Regarding your retired dentist: sometimes as dentists get near the end of their careers, they will watch things that really should be treated. It puts the new dentist in a tough spot. A second opinion can help put your mind at ease.
OrganicTomato@reddit
Thank you for the honest advice! I really appreciate it and will seek a second opinion.
BTW, would you happen to be familiar with Dr. Scott Dooley in Garland? He also seems to have a conservative approach, and he's very close to where I live, so I'm considering his office as well.

Haight Family Dentistry at Preston and Spring Creek. They're awesome
FriscoOrthodontist@reddit
If you’re willing to drive to Frisco, Tribute Family Dentistry is family owned and operated, in network with Delta, and all for conservative preventive dentistry 👍🏻

I go to paragon dentistry and also use delta ppo. The front desk staff have always been very nice and I've gotten great service from both the dental assistants and the dentist
flowjcv@reddit (OP)
They're not in-network with Delta.
I called Delta and called Paragon.
So you're throwing money away by using them.
Unusual_Tea_4318@reddit
Oh yeah you're right. Idk how it works exactly but basically what happens is i go to the dentist, I don't pay, and then a few weeks later I get a check in the mail from Delta that I then give to the dentist office. So functionally it feels the same to me since I don't have to pay anything out of pocket, but you're right that it's technically not in network
flowjcv@reddit (OP)
Are you sure you’re not paying anything?
Do you only do general cleaning and never anything more?
What you’re describing is the process, but Delta covers an allowed amount for out of network, instead of the full service like they do for in-network.
So unless the allowed amount happens to be 100% of the service charge (usually it’s not), then you’d still have responsibility for some portion
Unusual_Tea_4318@reddit
We've had a combination of regular cleaning and other procedures. Maybe you and I just have different allowable amounts? I like the dentist and this system has worked for us so far, but others have recommended some other dentists so hopefully you find a good one that's in network for you!
flowjcv@reddit (OP)
I do like Paragon too from what I’ve seen, but they’re out of network with Delta.
The allowed amounts would be the same, assuming same procedure code, same insurance plan.
Are you on Delta PPO or Premier? Or do you have both? I’ve got both but from what I read PPO is superior.
I find it hard to believe you don’t pay anything out of pocket, especially when you’re doing more than just general cleanings. They must have you pay at the end of your visits via credit card or something?

If you're on the west side - star ranch. Kind of bougie but they do quality work.
Eastside - Watson family dentistry.

Dr Lo https://www.texasdentalpa.com/?utm_source=gmb_auth
dallasyeti@reddit
He’s the best and my dentist as well. I pay extra bc my insurance doesn’t fully cover things as it’s out of network but he and the staff are worth it
FabulousBullfrog9610@reddit
I didn't notice your Delta Dental part. I'm sorry!!
Matchboxx@reddit
They unfortunately don't take any insurance. I've used Dr. Lo for the last few years but the out of network cost gets worse year over year, to the point where it's now $85 per cleaning.
FabulousBullfrog9610@reddit
I'm sorry!!

I have Delta Dental and it's been tough finding a private dentist that is in network with them. Your best bet is to check the Delta Dental website.
iknowyou6612@reddit
I’ve been going to Dr. Fan in Richardson just south of Bush and I’ve been very happy. They are private and in-network with Delta.
MyDentistIsACat@reddit
Dentist here. Delta has notoriously low reimbursement rates so you either have to use the cheapest supplies you can find or you’re basically losing money to see patients. I have a few patients with delta who see me, we of course still submit in their behalf, and they do get reimbursed a good amount. You don’t need to feel like your insurance won’t pay anything if you go out of network although of course call and check on your specific plan.
flowjcv@reddit (OP)
I mean yeah they won't just leave you to pay the entire bill out of pocket, but they're going to pay a lot less than they would had it been in-network.
Is your clinic in-network or out of network with Delta?
MyDentistIsACat@reddit
Out.
sassqueen316@reddit
I tried doing out of network with my dentist and insurance only paid $189 which left me with a $319 bill for xrays and a cleaning. I can't afford that for two people every year on top of my dental plan when previously I was only paying for fluoride and a $50 deductible.
Cloudy_Automation@reddit
Being in network with any dental insurance provider is probably a sign to go elsewhere if you want the best experienced dentist. But, that's not always financially feasible.
flowjcv@reddit (OP)
Are you only finding corporate chains?
sassqueen316@reddit
Based on the website, yes. I think there were only 2 within a 10 mile radius of my house that weren't corporate. I actually need to call to schedule an appointment because it's time for my cleaning. I'm planning to see Danice Couch. She has good reviews, so we'll see. I loved my old dentist. I'm still bummed he's not accepting my insurance anymore.
Rhythmspirit1@reddit
I’ve run into same thing. Had to drop my long time dentist because he went no insurance and out of pocket only.

Anthony Dillard is the best! Right at the edge of Plano and Carrollton
AphidsTwinMattress@reddit
Have you had any cavities or root canal work done there?
Wrong_Dependent_5411@reddit
Cavities, crowns and my spouse did invisalign. Have not needed a root canal fortunately but he is so good at keeping you comfortable during procedures.
I've had some dental trauma from my childhood where previous dentists didn't numb me well enough and his office had helped me so much with their level of care. I always have the same hygienist too!
AphidsTwinMattress@reddit
Thank you! This is exactly what I needed. My longtime family dentist retired a few years ago and every dentist I've checked out since has been awful. One did such a poor cavity fill that it cracked my molar.
Gonna check this dentist out 🤞🤞
Wrong_Dependent_5411@reddit
Enjoy! His reviews are perfect for a reason!

LIV Denistry in The Colony is great. My former dentist told me I need $600 of work. Went to LIV and no work was needed at all. I trust them 💯. I gave Dental also.

Dr. Bridgeman is whom I've seen since I was small. He is excellent!

Dr Stansbury Independence and Spring Creek
No muss no fuss. Took a long while to find a dental clinic that wasn’t out to charge for every little thing. The kind of places when you finish your cleaning and go check out there are always out of pocket charges no one told you about that insurance wont cover. “Oh the doctor said your gums were very sensitive so we did a “special” cleaning”. A lot of the dentists are owned by a bigger group and built on upsell upsell upsell. So are a lot of vet clinics these days. Big groups buy out a private business, make them stay on board for a year so people won’t bail and charge way more and cut tons of staff.
So yeah, Dr Stansbury
BettyFosterRamsey@reddit
Exactly why we use him. Very thorough and honest, never overcharged. Lovely staff and comfortable waiting room.

Dr. Jessica Lien at Smile One Dental near Cityline in East Plano has been great! Have been going to her since she started her practice.
