Why is this industry so ridiculous

Sounds like something someone with limited experience in the industry would say. Have you been a shipper? Not just a truck loader, but the person who decides the truck loading schedule and decides which trucking company or brokerage gets the loads, and makes sure the production crew has the product ready to ship? Have you been a receiver? Not just unloading a truck, but keeping an efficient dock schedule so the proper product gets warehoused or staged in the proper area without blocking access for the next truck to unload? Have you been a dispatcher? Not just telling the drivers where to go, but maintaining corporate mandated metrics for the fleet and making sure that stubborn drivers that want to "have freedom on the open road" actually follow along with the game plan, all while keeping customers happy by keeping drivers held to a schedule and promptly updating the customer to any variance? There's a lot more that goes into those jobs, what a driver sees is just a fraction of it. So of course from your perspective it's an easy job to do.
