What are the best cigarettes for beginners?

Yes I know I know what you are all gunna say, but it’s a genuine question.

I’ve been going through a really bad rough patch in terms of my mental health and I’ve been constantly thinking about smoking, even though I’ve never done it before. The only time I’ve smoked is when I use my best friend’s non nicotine vape, but last time I did it I wanted to keep going instead of giving it back to her.

As it’s my first time I’m looking for something on the cheaper side, preferably with not a lot of cigarettes in the pack so that I haven’t completely wasted it if I don’t like if. Any ideas?

Just my input, I was in a bad place, done drugs, smoked again, drinking was silly and then thought WTF am I doing?! I found walking and light exercise give me that buzz I was looking for. If you have this best friend, talking also helps with your metal health. Why start smoking now? As others will say, think of the expense that could be used on better things in your life. Hope things get easier for you!

Mate I’m a nihilist and I’ve been smoking for a couple decades, is that really a question when you’ve never had exposure to nicotine‽

Superkings are usually the cheapest as they are pretty awful. Take up vaping if you must but honestly if you start smoking you will never stop. And you will stink.

Honestly, don't.

I am coming from this viewpoint as an ex smoker (smoked for over 20 years and have the damage to prove it). You might think it's one here and one there but it's not the actual nicotine that calms you down, it's the slow rhythmic breathing that does.

Once you are hooked on the nicotine it's an absolute bitch to come off it. I haven't smoked for 6 years at this point and still get regular cravings, especially during periods of high stress.

Here's an idea: don't even think about it. Seriously - if you have money to burn, go and donate it to charity or do something worthwhile with it.

The best thing you could do as a wannabe smoker, is never touch the things.

I smoked for 15 years - and that was in the days when they were £2 a pack, which was less than the price of a beer. Wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy!

The best cigarette really is no cigarette. Particularly if you are having mental health problems you don't want to start developing an expensive habit that is addictive and could negatively impact your mental and physical health in the long term. Think about why you are craving a cig and what alternatives might fill this craving. If you find yourself fidgeting or wanting something to do with your hands which leads you to consider smoking, I'd make a cup of tea as it gives you something ritualised, and something to hold in your hands and pause. You might want to consider taking up a hobby that distracts you and gives you something again to do with your hands like knitting, or get a fidget spinner.
