Should you butter a bacon sandwich?

I think not. I've grown up making bacon butties from bacon and bread, with tomato ketchup. Nothing more.
In a recent discussion here (about different types of spread), someone thought it anathema.
I butter bread for almost any purpose, but not for bacon sandwiches. Or baps, or buns, or cobs, or whatever.
A bacon sandwich is one of the greatest pleasures in life. I personally like Tommy K; I can accept that others like brown sauce. But butter is bizarre to me.
For a sausage sandwich, I think it's arguable. I wouldn't be astonished at someone buttering those. I don't think it's *necessary* but I accept it's within the bell curve of normal.
I am quite surprised that - apparently - some folks butter a bacon sandwich.
It seems odd to me.
^(When I say "butter", I mean any sort of spread.)
