What language changes or usages interest you?

I say “interest you” rather than the usual “wind you up” or “completely enrage you” because I find language usage of all kinds interesting, I don’t automatically rail against language change. I think it’s pretty egotistical to think we’ve coincidentally been born at the time when the English language was finally “correct”, that 1000 years of history were all naturally leading to this point, and any further change is now unnecessary! That being said I am *interested* (haha) by the redundant insertion of “what” in comparisons. For example: “It was easier than what I thought it would be.” “I got less than what I hoped.” It interests me as usually changes are shortcuts, essentially trying to say something more efficiently. Whereas this one inserts a whole word that isn’t required. Why? What changes in usage interest you and why?
