I've used Windows all my life. Is it worth switching to Linux?

Modern Linux is not command prompt(terminal) heavy. Using the terminal is popular with power users since you can do a lot by just typing a few commands into the terminal, but if you want to treat Linux like Windows or your phone, it works well that way too. The only times you're forced into the Terminal is when you are troubleshooting, making non-standard changes to the OS, or trying to run experimental software, but that's what it's often like on Windows too. If you never touched command prompt on Windows, you probably won't need to touch it on Linux either. Most Linux Distros come with package managers, which work basically like your phone's app stores. You open the app, search for the app you want, hit install. Done. Some apps you still need to download a package file(kinda like Setup EXEs or APKs on Android, but relies on the package manager mentioned above), or portable AppImages(like those portable EXE apps that run just by opening the file you downloaded). App compatibility is a complicated story, like Android vs iOS. Many Windows apps have native options or alternatives on Linux these days. You can install Chrome if you want, VLC, etc. Teams has a slightly buggy but mostly functional client available. Steam works natively, and can install most Windows games in a playable state, with the main exception being Multiplayer games with agressive anti-cheat, and there are tools for getting GOG and the Epic Game Store working as well. Microsoft Office can be replaced by something like Libre Office or OnlyOffice. Alternatively, if you must have actual Microsoft Office, virtual machine tools like WinBoat have matured a lot recently, making it easier to run Office and other stubborn Windows only apps in a more seamless way by running Windows in the background. There are also apps like Bottles and Lutris(more gaming focused) that leverage WINE, similar to Steam, to run Windows apps and games close to natively on Linux, though compatibility can be all over the place and fiddly. The main hiccup these days for app compatibility are proprietary creative tools which are common in many industries. The Adobe suite is not reliable, though tools like WinBoat can get them to mostly work with performance penalties. Video editors like Adobe Premiere do not work. Davinci Resolve mostly works, but its native Linux version has limitations and can be fiddly to get working outside its one officially supported Linux Distro. If you are open to trying alternatives, KdenLive and OpenShot are available for video editing, GIMP and Krita for photo editing and illustration, etc. Blender has thankfully become an industry standard and fully supports Linux. But if all you need to do in your day to day life is open a web browser, write some documents, edit some photos, etc. Linux is perfectly usable, even for your average joe. Linux Mint is a good starting point to try Linux out, just get the Cinnamon version from their website and write it to a blank USB drive using Rufus or Balena Etcher. The hardest part is just convincing your PC to not boot Windows when you turn it on with the USB plugged in. Some will boot automatically, others you'll have to consult documentation or guides to get to your Motherboard settings and change the boot settings. Once you can boot from the USB, you can actually try Linux Mint out in a temporary mode without installing anything. Nothing is saved until you start the installation setup. Until then you can load the web browser, mess with settings, try to install some stuff, etc. Once you've tried Linux Mint, if you don't like it, you can come back here and say what parts you had issue with, and ask what Distro would fit your needs better.
