Agreed. It’s mostly about wanting to feel wanted and socially accepted, to the point that women are willing to sleep with you. It’s just easier to latch onto the idea of sex/a gf, which are fairly simple (albeit sometimes unattainable) goals, than to acknowledge the complete lack of human connection in your life. When you think about it, sex is generally more of an indicator of success than the cause of it.

Winston is a low level elite deeply unhappy with his life in a repressive authoritarian regime, and is actually jealous of the underclass (who aren't as policed) and the upperclass (who can do whatever they want). The book descends into a romance for the middle bit because Winston is fed up with following the rules and this is an act of rebellion. It doesn't go well for him. Anon is jealous of another man who is an incel (party members are only allowed sex to procreate) and misses the point of 1984 completely.
