If anyone ‘rescued’ a standard poodle or labradoodle from the SSPCA since October last year it’s probably one of mine. I’d love to hear from anyone who has one - even just to know the dog is still alive. I’m realistic - my Doberman, German shepherd and Belgian malinois will have been slaughtered.
Melodic_Pizzazz@reddit
Appalling and the SSPCA even worse. SSPCA turned up when I had only been in Scotland 12 days and stole £20k of animals off me and are now prosecuting in hope of being able to charge me their ‘costs’ and take my house. They don’t need donations, they make a fortune stealing. They also euthanise most of the animals they steal - in their annual report they ‘rescued’ 37k animals but only found 4k homes. What happened to the rest? Pure evil. ‘Inspectors’ didn’t give a care for the animals and just strutted about giddy with their powers which they kept telling me about.

I’ve had to call them for horses being mistreated in fields near me and they have been useless, refused to come out to see them, despite them clearly being underweight and mistreated (I’ve had horses over 20 years so know what a mistreated horse looks like) then as I was ending the call they asked for a donation then called me multiple times after that asking for donations again. They won’t touch wildlife either.
CasualGlam87@reddit
Sometimes they come out for wildlife but usually just kill them even if it's something that could be easily treated. When I had a litter of orphaned fox cubs in my garden the RSPCA didn't want to know (found the mum dead and remote cameras showed no other adults visiting the den). Poor things were starving and crying out non stop but they said to leave them and let nature take it's course. Thankfully a local wildlife rescue were a lot more helpful
blackcurrant84@reddit
The absolute brass neck of asking for a donation at the end of that call. Used to work in the charity sector and they have a reputation for this sort of attitude all over.

World Horse Welfare however are fantastic and really helpful…

I’m a dog groomer and two dogs we get in very rarely (they always call a few days before begging for a spot) belong to someone in the RSPCA.
They are both flea ridden when they arrive, matted, long nails and old mud/poo/dirt all over. They are the sweetest dogs which is the only reason we take them (at the end of the day before a deep clean).
Every time I don’t want to hand them back and just take them home myself. My boss reported them but the said they were getting treatment (ie with us - we’re not vets) so nothing could be done.

I reported two donkeys to the them a few years ago, looked like they had been abandoned in a field. Hooves over grown to the point one could barely walk, mange and no food. The field was so muddy barely any grass and no hay or any type of feed at all. They weren’t really interested and asked me if they were actually abandoned? I used to have horses so I rang around every one I knew and asked in several local community groups to try to find out the owners etc but no one had any idea where these donkeys came from. The owners of the field had no clue these two donkeys were even in there since the field was pretty much just weeds n muck and left for the winter. Tried contacting them again but was ignored!! The owners of the field took them in and they are now in a grass field healthy and enjoying life with his goats

I used to be very pro-RSPCA, but I was put off after enquiring to adopt a rabbit last year. Firstly my application was completely ignored, then after sending some more emails I was told I couldn’t adopt a third rabbit because more than two rabbits never works…
…so instead I adopted my third rabbit from a local rabbit rescue, who were so knowledgeable and friendly. Following their instructions (which are different to the RSPCAs out-of-date recommended bonding method), it was the easiest bond I’ve ever done and my trio are the happiest rabbits I’ve ever owned.
I totally understand they have to be careful with their adoptions, maybe it was just that one person at that one centre who was clueless, maybe they had another reason for not wanting me to try bonding 3…but to say something as blatantly wrong as “you can’t have more than two rabbits together”, and to be promoting out of date bonding methods really makes me question their knowledge.
I still support what the RSPCA does, we need them to help fight for animal rights and I think that’s what they should focus on, but in terms of adoption centres I will always donate to and support local independents over them.

Phoned about a dog being left in an unheated shed in the middle of winter on a building site (house that had been knocked down and rebuilt was completely empty no windows etc so no humans around). They did fuck all as usual. They're not worth the money that's given them, should be shut down and replaced by something that actually does something.

I did school work experience at the local RSPCA branch (id asked for office or retail but ended up at the kennels) i was clearly in the way from the beginning and they didn’t seem to have any actual work for me to do other than feed the dogs and small animals, when they realised my birthday was on the same day as 2 other members of staff, which should’ve been my last day of work experience, they made up some crap about a dog escaping and told me they had informed school and I was not to come back for the 2 week.
A volunteer there was a friend’s cousin and she confirmed to me that i did nothing wrong and no dog had escaped, its because they had ordered bday cakes in for the other members of staff and they didn’t want me to feel bad about not getting one. She even told the deputy head at school about it and said similar things had happened before to other work experience kids.
In 2006 i lived in a block of flats. The girl above me was in an abusive relationship. She had a dog, and the dog got pregnant. One evening there was lots of shouting and banging and with help from another neighbour she kicked the boyfriend out and called the police on him. A week or so later he came back apologising and saying he had booked a last minute holiday for them. She fell for it and went on holiday and left the dog locked in the kitchen. It was having the puppies and whining, barking and scratching all day and night. We all called the RSPCA and the council and the police. The RSPCA refused to help until we said we would contact the local newspaper. The came out couldn’t gain entry. Wouldn’t break the door down. Left.
3 days later, after loads more complaints the council and police finally came out.
The dog and puppies were covered in shit and fleas, one puppy had died. The kitchen floor and lower cupboards were needing to be fully replaced. The dogs went to an independent kennel to be looked after. The flat door had the locks changed and a big poster up.
The RSPCA did nothing.
No-Taro-6953@reddit
OMFG who goes off on holiday and leaves a pregnant dog behind?! That's horrific
PolarLocalCallingSvc@reddit
There's a good reason charities like RSPCA exist, unfortunately.
dinkidoo7693@reddit
She was a total disaster. The boyfriend took advantage of it. He’s been in and out of jail, his face pops up in the local newspapers every so often. Not seen her in years, everyone in the block was happy when the council kicked her out.
Exact-Reference3966@reddit
You should have contacted the local newspaper...to report how useless they were.
dinkidoo7693@reddit
We did. A reported came out after the council and police had been.
Exact-Reference3966@reddit
Good to hear!
GuardLate@reddit
Just pointing out that the RSPCA have no legal authority to break the door down and force entry to someone’s property—they’re a charity, not an emergency service.
You did the right thing in calling the police, who do have a power of entry to prevent serious damage to property.

Many moons ago my mum tried to adopt a Dalmatian puppy, they did a house check etc and they were happy. A few days later she had not heard anything from so she rang for an update, they had given the puppy to someone else and not told her, she was heartbroken as she thought it was a done deal and had bought puppy stuff ☹️
PeroniNinja84@reddit
That so poor from them. They should have at least told her that other people were interested.

Massive issues related to "RSPCA assured" meat im supermarkets. Theres been countless reveals over how much bullshit is going on and RSPCA protection basically means fuck all (same for red tractor).
Welfare of farm animals and wildlife isn’t a major care for them.

My cat was pissing off the neighbours by simply being a cat. Chose to sleep on their windowsill in summer or on their motorbike cover, which was on the pavement. She had a minor flea issue and wasn't a rotund bugger like their cats we received claims that she was underfed amongst everything else. After the husband treated us to a shouting match at 11pm they decided to report us for having a cat with mange. RSPCA sod turned up on New Year's Day evening, delivering a spiel of BS fed to him. Showed him the cat where it was all disproven (no mange, healthy weight, healthy fur, registered with a vet and the like). My gripe was that he wouldn't inform the reporter of his findings or take a welfare report on the doorstep. Episode was mediocre, not positive or negative.
(And for those who say I didn't have to interact with him, it was a calculated manoeuvre and I didn't let him into the house.)
Meowerse@reddit
There was a cat in our back garden in an absolute state. Could see that it was bad bad. Seeing adverts for RSPCA you think naturally think of them. My Dad rang up RSPCA in our area and was fobbed off. They wouldn’t even come and look. We then rang the main RSPCA to be told “all cats are vermin” and that they were not going to help. At this time I had 4 cats (lost two now, one at 17 for thyroid medication issues and one at 13 for heart failure. My other two are going strong touch wood) that we had adopted in our area. We rang them up and they managed to get the poor cat to the vets. The little cat had mouth cancer, no teeth, skin and bone and the best thing was to put them to sleep. I was so angry but wasn’t getting anywhere with phone lines, so posted on our local RSPCA Facebook. They called bull to what was said and went on to my Facebook and saw my picture of my four cats. Claimed I clearly didn’t give a shit about my cats (among other personal things) and blocked me. Never in a fucking million years would I trust the RSPCA after that shit. That cat was suffering in such an absolute cruel way and to have the national RSPCA tell us that all cats are vermin?? They do not care at all
Frothingdogscock@reddit
They seem to have taken over prosecuting animal cruelty from the government.
Pretty sure that's not what people leave them millions in their wills for.
Misskinkykitty@reddit
There's an incredible amount of equestrian centres and horse owners within my community. Unfortunately, there have been numerous cases of abuse and neglect.
Whenever someone reports an incident to the RSPCA, they are either ignored or the person reporting is informed by the RSPCA that they are now liable for all treatment and will face criminal prosecution if they don't.
Unsurprisingly, this results in animal abuse being ignored.
kittykat7931@reddit
I have had numerous dealings with them through work and they were next to useless when we called them but expected us to be there in the drop of a hat when they needed us.
Personally I called them when one of my cats bought in a live budgie. I called my vets and asked if they could help and they agreed but said they needed the RSPCA to commit to paying the bill. I contacted the RSPCA who told me to put the bird back out into sub-zero temperatures and leave it to the elements, to knock on neighbours doors to see if they could take it when I refused to do that then told me they only dealt with animals that weighed over 2kg! At that point I lost my tempered and got a reference number off them to take the budgie to the vets who were very impressed! Maybe telling them they had no interest in animal welfare and were the most useless organisation I’d ever dealt with hit a nerve….

Phoned a couple of times about abandoned cats and they were just not interested. Not too sure what species you'd need to have to in order to get them to do something!

2 Jack Russell living in a shed 24/7. Blind due to no daylight. Called RSPCA & because they're fed, watered & sheltered they did absolutely nothing. They did however, endlessly phone asking for donations. I know others who've had similar experiences.
Upset_Measurement_31@reddit
I don't know anyone who has had a good experience with them.
barrysxott@reddit
They put their so called freedom food branding onto factory farmed shite meat and profit from it. So yeah fuck those guys plenty of better options if you are feeling charitable.
