This is small debate I had with some friends, is it mainly their intelligence or their looks that prevent them from scoring?

Intelligence. Obviously, both play a role, but both beavis and butthead had chances. Beavis with Glennis, Butthead when he met the girl from the dating service, and both when they went on the teen crisis TV show. They messed up because they were to stupid.

A classmate named Glennis fell head-over-heels for Beavis after seeing him go into a Cornholio crash-out, but her attempts at expressing her love for Beavis backfire because Butt-Head kept gaslighting Beavis into thinking she'd instead kick Beavis' ass and hook up with Butt-Head.
That is, except for the last attempt (at least of this episode), which failed because she got arrested for committing arson in an attempt to impress Beavis after hearing that he's a pyromaniac.

It's mostly their impulsiveness, and cock blocking each other. It isn't their appearance, remember the two used to resemble their world not just look like they were put in a different show, tons of characters were ugly.
Beavis and Butthead got women interested but usually Butt-Head ended it sometimes spitefully. Crab bucket.
Remember the VHS dating episode, the concept is so old I can't even remember what those video dating were actually called. Senior Beavis had that old woman interested. Beavis had all the fan letters at Christmas addressed to him but Butt-Head kept them away. That girl that became a pyro to impress Beavis. Intelligence in Beavis’ case, since there have been a few times where someone has been genuinely interested in him but he couldn’t put two and two together or was sabotaged by Butthead.

It's more that they're crass and have an almost complete lack of social skills, especially in Butt-Head's case. Their intelligence doesn't help, though. Women have shown some interest in Beavis, mostly because he's the nicer of the two, but he's always too clueless to pick up on it.
