In the lead up to Christmas one year our late westie managed to get a chunk out of the Christmas pudding because my dad left the shopping on the kitchen floor Then we got a replacement Christmas pudding and guess what happened again. He suffered no ill effects from this somehow afaik.

My brother and I got star wars figures for Christmas in 97 or so including Luke Skywalker. One of our dobermans picked him up in excitement and chewed on him removing his hand. Called him Darth Vader for a little while after that.

My Jack Russell x Springer Spaniel had good taste in quality street; first time I had both him and them in the same room he stole a purple one. Never found the wrapper. He also managed to open the drawer of my bedside table to steal a 100g bar of dark chocolate, fortunately with no ill effects beyond some vomiting and a hefty vet bill. A food-obsessed Cocker Spaniel joined the household a month ago so expecting to lose most of Christmas dinner if we’re not extremely careful.

My mum had put the Turkey out to defrost (it was under like a big pan type thing?) on Christmas Eve whilst we’d nipped out to relatives etc come back and the cat had helped herself to it, so a mad dash ensued for a Turkey and Netto was the only place with turkeys left!

I've got a new one this year: My mother-in-law told my daughter (who is adopted) that if I don't give said daughter enough presents, the aforementioned MIL is going to come round with a rolling pin and nag me until I max out my credit card My daughter said 'But Mum gave me more than I've ever had in my life...' And that caused my MIL to pout and say 'It should be twice as many!' And so now my MIL has made a running joke that I quote like, especially because I know *exactly* why she said it, and it's not a bad reason at all

My Shih Tzu ate a whole selection of liqueur chocolates while we were out on Christmas Eve one year - the ones shaped like bottles, that are filled with booze. He was fast asleep surrounded by foil wrappers and giftwrap when we got home, and very obviously had a hangover when he woke up. That was the first and last time he stole chocolate.

Early 80s, brand new VCR right before Christmas (cost a BOMB), our mongrel dog desided it needed scent marking and peed all over it, destroying it instantly. Mum so freaked out the dog got put down \*on Christmas Eve\*. Poor Patch he was a TERRIBLE dog but I still miss him.

Our childhood dog was having her last Christmas. After opening Santa presents we all got ready to go to church and then granny's, and old pup looked so comfy by the fire that we decided just to let her sleep in the living room and put the other dogs in the kitchen. Two and a half hours later we arrive home, old pup is still snoozing in front of the fire... with the best part of two selection boxes in her belly! She had snuck under the tree, snuffled out and ate the chocolate with a side dish of wrapping paper and cardboard. She was a brilliant dog. We lost her the following February, her back legs totally went one day, but we still laugh near 30 years later talking about her that Christmas morning.

Back in the 80’s we’d gone visiting grandparents etc.. came home to find the turkey 80% eaten on the floor… and multiple piles of shit and vomit! everyone was gagging and screaming.. And our German Shepard just looking shifty in his bed! Still one of the best dogs we ever had! RIP Rebel!

Sat down to Christmas lunch, dog was suspiciously quiet. Went back to kitchen for more gravy and found him by the back door with a turkey leg in his mouth waiting patiently to be let out. Still have no idea how he did it as he was a small dog - even on back legs, his nose barely reached the edge of the counter. Turkey leg was the size of his head! He gave up the leg in return for some skin and then settled himself happily under the table...

Many years ago my aunt and uncle had the dumbest, laziest cat, well so we all thought. While prepping Christmas lunch my Uncle opened the door to a very irrate neighbour. Their increbily dumb, lazy cat had stolen the neighbours turkey which had been defrosting in the garage. It was discovered only because the neighbour heard a loud crash and went to investigate. The turkey was gone only to be discovered being chomped on by said cat, underneath the car. My aunt and uncle had two extra mouths to feed that day, but suffice to say, relations were never quite the same.

My mum couldn't stop laughing because this cat had absolutely no prey drive or slightest desire to steal any food. Our cat, who had travelled with us for Christmas, was somewhat different. My mum would sellotape the fridge because he could open it! You left no meat or cheese product where he could get to it, and yet ironically he was fast asleep upstairs when the crime was committed. Quite frankly, if stupid cat hadn't been caught in the act, our cat would have been wrongly accused. It still makes me laugh all these years later!

had to explain to my neighbour where their cat got a chicken wing from... haha for context next doors cat is allowed in my flat to get away from the kids etc. they usually sleep on my home server (had to unplug the power button as they love to bap it haha) was butchering a chicken, cut the wings off to chuck in the air fryer as a snack while the chicken cooks. the little fucker moved from my server to the kitchen and out the window in BARELY a second... fucker. miss that cat. they're not dead just the person moved <3

Our cat Harry (full name Harry Houdini) once managed to leap onto the table and steal the entire turkey just as mum had turned away to get the stuffing out the fridge. After a short chase and fight with growling cat attached to said turkey she gave it a quick rinse under the tap, wrapped it in bacon to hide the teeth marks and cooked it anyway 😂

This dates back to the late 70s when I was a child. We used go to one of my grandmother's for the evening meal on Christmas day along with the rest of the family. It's getting closer and closer to the food being served but there's no sign of one of my great uncles and his wife. They don't have a phone and so my dad and one of my uncles drive around to check on them. They come back an hour later with great uncle and his wife. Dad and uncle are absolutely howling with laughter, great aunt looks like she's ready to kill great uncle and great uncle is missing a leg from the knee down. He'd gone to the pub the night before for 'a quick pint,' had got paralytically drunk and lost his false leg somewhere between the pub and his house on the way home. Wasn't the first time either, a few years before he'd got it stuck in the rails on a railway crossing.

My old dog ate a fullish tin of Quality Street. Didn't realise till Boxing Day as his poop was rainbow coloured. Eaten the wrappers and all. Christmas 2019 I got to my parents- their boiler had stopped working (or so we thought) so broke out the old heaters. Put the beef in the oven, opened it to put the roast spuds in a bit later- no heat in the oven. The element had gone. Had to drive home, cook Xmas dinner and drive back with it. Was just waiting for the third disaster but got away with it. (There was an issue with the gas lines to the house which stopped the boiler, they were thinking they'd need a new one so put a bit of a damper on Xmas).

OK Christmas 1966. I wasn't born yet. Parents went to bed on Christmas Eve, came down in the morning and the Christmas tree fairy was gone from the tree. Never to be seen again. My elder sibling was a newborn so it couldn't have been her. It was a life long mystery to my mother and a Christmas legend that got mentioned every year. I'd like to think it was some kind of magic going on. Reality is I suspect my father maybe didn't like it and disposed of it. He died in the early 70s not long after my birth so I never got to grill him over it!
