We didn't have that problem because we always went on a skiing holiday over Christmas, and so couldn't take large presents with us. Just a few small presents in a stocking on Christmas day. However for Mother's Day we once got awoken at 6 AM by 2 excited children carrying a breakfast tray. My wife had to eat burnt toast with cranberry sauce on it with a smile.

You learnt a valuable lesson..... I too have learnt that lesson in previous years. I was up until midnight wrapping presents etc one year and the kids woke up at 01:30!!!! Could we get them back to sleep!!?? Could we shite. We were all like zombies, kids all tired and upset by midday Christmas day. From now on, I don't try and pull off anything too elaborate on Christmas eve, wrap early and get an early night.

My oldest 11:30pm 🫠 we put the stocking in her room at 11pm. Got into bed a d was willing ourselves to sleep and here she comes with her bloody stocking excited Santa came. I’m so glad she can’t tell time yet because we had to put her in our bed and tell her she still had a few hours before it was morning 😅

It interests me looking on here today that so many parents have stockings as either a ‘we don’t do it’ or ‘it’s on the end of their bed’. We have always had them downstairs, and it’s always been a rule that we can’t go downstairs until a parent has checked to make sure Santa has been, which basically means it’s up to parents to decide when waking up is worth doing.

I went to bed at 2. 10 year old woke me at 4am to ask the time. Then at 4:50 and then at 6 and again at 6:20. At 6:20 they said “Happy Christmas” and I just couldn’t make them wait any longer. But they also woke up at 4am on Christmas Eve when I had also gone to bed at 2am. It’s been a nice day but I am going for a nap now!

We host Christmas and have the kids stay at ours while the adults stay in a hotel nearby. Our nieces are now all 10-15 which is great, as they slept in until gone 9. Although, it was less ideal that Father Christmas couldn't come until gone midnight when we were sure that the kids were asleep.

I watched Die Hard 2 last night with about 3 interruptions from my 8yr old telling me who couldn't sleep. He finally crashed out at 11ish. I was just getting into bed when I remembered I'd forgotten Santa's plate of bits needed eating. Then this morning, I realised I'd left something out of his stocking so I've randomly chucked it into his bed and will get him to find it later. He actually didn't wake up till 06.51 (according to him!) So that was actually pretty good going! This is my first Christmas day off in 4 years so I'm a bit rusty with the whole plate of pie/carrots. I'd only mentioned those particular fillers yesterday!
