Not really, most idiots drive beaters that are super slow if we are talking truly low iq folk that aren't going to succeed in such a way to make alot of money.
Most people don't drive fast cars either.
But yeah, EVs have taken all the fun out of acceleration for enthusiast cars. Kinda lame that any old grocery getter EV is way faster than entry level sports cars. So the enthusiast is left to other things, styling, modding, racing, dynamics, etc.
But the clarify 0-60 in an EV is still hella fun. Even if there's no sound or gears to shift. Flying to 60 before you can count to 3-4 is the same feeling as a good rollercoaster.
Agreed that it’s fun. I am excited to purchase an EV in the future to have fuck you silent speed.
I feel that now everyone has it (power) but wields it badly. And does somewhat dampen certain aspects of the past “enthusiast” highlights (Veyron/Gtr comes to mind, not sure if we’ll be astounded in the same way).
All this may push “enthusiasts” to focus more on handling, going to a track, modding, etc.
Not sure if I articulated a point but I can see a shift in what gets people’s interest in the future.
Yeah yesterday I was behind a tractor trailer that was behind a literal tractor. Passing lane came and I was 25-90mph before I could comprehend it. 0 noise, no shift, you going fast AF. Next car in line passing them looked like it was standing still.
As an owner it also handles pretty well for a car of its type and size. Went from a Honda HR-V to the Solterra and the Solterra is actually fun to drive.
It is not a sports car by any stretch but it feels responsive and the low center of gravity that EV's have makes it feel good in sweeping curves.
I owned a 2005 STI, so don’t take me as biased.
The equally priced Camaros and Mustangs of the VA STI had better skid pad g numbers than the STI (on top of straight line speed).
Tbh Odysseys (and Siennas) both handle great and have stout motors. I reckon they could keep up with a few enthusiast cars with a good driver. Partial to the 1st and 2nd gens of both, very light for the size.
I cry every time I compare 0-60 and 5-60.
Also, my 2006 was just as fast as my 2021 stock for stock 20 years ago. What was quick for the price in 2006 certainly is not in 2025.
Didn't a lot of auto reviewers also benchmark the STi as having a slower 0-60 by the end of its run too? I remember the C&D times being like .5s slower due to emissions or something between 2015 and 2020.
Correct.
The last few tests didn’t break 5.0 to 60. The later STIs got boat anchor 19” wheels which didn’t help. The early VA BBS wheels were 22 pounds each, the later non-BBS 19s are 29 pounds per.
5-60 is the realest measure of a cars real world performance. Its a great way to show how it will drive when you’re not being an asshole reving it out at the light. For EVs the 5-60 is quicker than the 0-60, but for gas cars its always slower.
Meh, it’s like saying my wife’s Rivian is quicker than my M3 so I should be in shambles. Completely different feel and purpose. Really don’t think it’s that important
And the Uncharted will have the same drive train in a smaller vehicle!
I'm pretty sure the eWRX concept was based on the Uncharted. Put a bigger rear motor (power split is like 2:1) and you have a killer car.
Unless they really screw something up, the Uncharted is going to be a cult fave — 338HP in something the size of a Hyundai Kona with alien eyes and a fastback profile. Super excited to see how the reviews go for that one.
Any AWD EV will do under 5 seconds. It’s not that impressive. It’s fun, it’s great, but it’s not competitive in the slightest against other cars in its segment. It’s the norm.
[Solterra XT Limited](https://www.subaru.com/vehicles/solterra/2026.html) (you'll need the XT trim for the higher power output) MSRP $42,895
[Hyundai Ioniq5](https://www.hyundaiusa.com/us/en/build/options?modelYear=2026&modelName=5004_SE&drivetrain=AWD) (I think SE-AWD trim is the lowest comparable drivetrain?) MSRP $42,600
[Kia EV6 Wind AWD](https://www.kia.com/us/en/ev6/specs-compare) MSRP $54,300
[Tesla Model Y Premium AWD](https://www.tesla.com/modely/design#overview) cash price $48,990
[Volvo EX-40](https://www.volvocars.com/us/cars/ex40-electric/) (I assume you meant this and not the smaller -30? the XC40 is a hybrid.) MSRP $56,445
[BWM iX xDrive45](https://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/bmw-i-series/ix/bmw-ix.html#tabs-012ad238a0-item-98a0e1c9de-tab) (the i4 is a sedan) MSRP $75,150
Polestar 2 is only available as CPO right now, and I'm not sure if the Polestar 3 would be a more apples-to-apples comparison anyway. Polestar's website is... weird... but the lowest listing I could find for a [Polestar 3 LR-AWD](https://www.polestar.com/us/preconfigured-cars/polestar-3/) was MSRP $74,800
[Cadillay Lyriq](https://www.cadillac.com/shopping/configurator/suv/2026/lyriq/lyriq/compare?radius=100&zipCode=48243) the lowest AWD trim I think is the "Luxury AWD" with MSRP $64,495
Its 40k because Subaru didn't do anything with the STi. They tried to get people to buy it because of the name. If they would have done something with it, people would pay more. It doesn't need to be at a hellcat or M3 level to be relevant.
The last STi from 2021 cost about $40k. The current WRX costs about $40k. Both these cars hit 0-60 in roughly the same time of about 5.4 seconds, give or take. Subaru has never offered a performance sedan that was more powerful, capable, or quicker than these 2. And that was exactly my point, so that's why I asked you that question above.
If they were selling a $60k-$70k sport sedan and it was slower than this Solterra, *then* we could talk about shame. But that's clearly not the case, so it's silly to expect the current WRX to be quicker than a 340hp $50k electric CUV. And I used the M3 and Hellcat examples because those are a whole other tier or two above the WRX in both performance and cost, so one would expect those to be quicker than 4.3 seconds 0-60. Relevancy has nothing to do with it.
