Any cool one-day classes?

My job has a perk that lets us take a day off to learn something new. I’d love to take a single day class on… anything, I guess. I just don’t know how to find out about opportunities like this in Dallas. Any ideas on where to start? I briefly browsed dallas community college website and couldn’t basically do a search for “single day classes”.

Look on their Continuing Ed classes. That's where you can find short ones of all types.

Does it have to be at something like a community college? If not, I would say something like an intro rock climbing or bouldering class at a Summit climbing gym. It’s active, air conditioned, and you may even find a new fun hobby

Oil and Cotton in Oak Cliff does a variety of adult art classes in all kinds of subjects. The Workshop by TBK Bank over by Love Field is a cool maker space that has classes on wood working, plasma cutting, 3D printing, etc. Trade Oak Cliff does classes mostly on ceramics and sometimes some other random stuff.

I agree. Very fun art type projects that you get to take home. Great for team building or just learning something new. We carved our own ink stamps and all stamped eachothers page in random order and made a super cool 15 pic collage.

someone mentioned some good artsy places like oil and cotton, trade oak cliff, there’s also dallas maker space which has a bunch of ceramics, woodworking, blacksmith etc

i teach thai boxing if you are interested :) my coach is a world champion that captured all major belts in Thailand his coach was a Thai champion with 400 fights

Could you use it at a climbing gym? Movement (formerly Summit) has some cool classes. Or, if you are interested, learn to sew. I recently took a couple of hours long class at a local fabric shop. Maybe a bonus is that you get the rest of the day off to hang out

It was a two hour class at Urban Spools. They introduce you to how a sewing machine works and you make a pillow. I think they have other classes too

The [Craft Guild of Dallas](https://thecraftguild.org/events) does a number of one day workshops but they tend to be during the evenings or weekends. I got some friends together and we did a one day glass blowing class and that was really cool. The studio we did it at no longer does one day events but there's some other ones that do.

Not sure if they have 1-day classes, but there are weekend and multi-week courses at the Creative Arts Center. Learn sculpture, drawing, welding, ceramics, painting, jewelry making and more! I moved to Collin County or else I’d be taking more classes.

This isn't necessarily a class, but there are a few flight schools in the DFW area that will let you take a one-off flying lesson. They're usually called discovery flights, run \~$100, and you'll get to honestly tell people that you flew a plane.

I think you can do a one day "Learn how to sail" class at a few of the local lakes which would be fun!

So actually, I took a free boating course at Lake Lewisville. It was legit and totally free. They teach you how to drive the boat it’s provided by a boat rental company so you get a 10% discount card. They’re doing it to drum up business but it was actually pretty fun.
