UA's new 789 configuration
Sort of interesting that now more than half the available real estate on the aircraft consists of premium seating. What do you think the greater takeaway from this should be?

Looks like United is making a solid run at the premium experience..

im mean their biggest rivals are Delta who make way more profit in a year than united does. So no surprise United's going more premium heavy, that's been the trend since the pandemic ended

The idea that any of the big 3 are any more “premium” than the others is laughable

Right well it’s not to say that any of the 3 don’t offer “A premium experience” , rather that United is looking to make more premium available for more $$$$

r/flying is intended to be a place to discuss things like pilot training, regulations, procedures, techniques, aircraft ownership and maintenance, piloting as a career, and similar topics. “Aviation enthusiast” content is better suited to r/aviation. Flight simulation belongs in r/flightsim. Questions and content about air travel (passenger experience, frequent flyer programs, etc.) are better suited to r/travel.

Counting Economy Plus/Economy as one cabin, there are 36 more economy seats on a UAL 737 MAX 9 than this aircraft.

Bigger chance for upgrade?

Non-rev paradise.

Wow, very premium heavy. Not surprising though, that's where the industry is leaning to. People hate flying coach.

International coach in the 1990s was often pretty comfy, because the plane was often half-empty and you would get entire rows to yourself...I guess the airlines could get away with it when unleaded was only $1.05 a gallon.

I think everyone hates it, it's just what we can afford

>What do you think the greater takeaway from this should be? That airline pilots don't really care about the layout of the cattle pens behind them.

They do when it’s time to nonrev and they want a chance at a decent seat. The way the industry is moving, it should be a lot easier for employees to get premium seats on international flights in the future.

Honestly whenever I fly internationally I just buy a ticket. I make enough money that I don’t care to pay for it I just to enjoy the vacation and not worry about missing a flight

Non-revving has been challenging for over a decade with the way companies oversell. I get that pilots, and employees in general care about seats then, but the original comment was “what do you think the greater takeaway from this should be?” And the comment I was responding to was that “pilots don’t really care about the layout of the cattle pens behind them”. Which isn’t even a relevant takeaway.

Respectfully, what does the pilot have to do with it anyways? Pilots are paid to fly the aircraft by the company, the company determines seating configurations, that’s not something pilots have any input on and I’m not sure why they should.

Respectfully, my point was the seat layout of an airliner doesn't really align with rule #2.

What routes would they use it for? LAX-EWR. EWR-LHR/FRA?

The rumor is SFO-SIN, SFO/EWR-LHR. But we will see soon.

Even more premium heavy than AA’s new 789P configuration wow. 64 J seats compared to 50 on AA 789P

Oh no! They're taking out the two seat sections just in front of the rear galley! My wife and I use those when we are being cheap flight goblins (LAX-Sydney, DEN-Narita)
