This is not a big deal. MTV isn't shutting down and the main channel hasn't shown videos since the 90's. Probably a bot post.

MTV is officially coming to an end — **the iconic music television channel is shutting down five of its dedicated music channels globally by Dec 31st, 2025**. MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV, and MTV Live will cease broadcasting as Paramount Global shifts focus to digital platforms & streaming.

Lol... MTV is in fact, not shutting down. They added extra channels that just showed music videos back in the 2000's, and that is what is ending. The main MTV channel is going nowhere. https://www.10news.com/news/fact-or-fiction/fact-or-fiction-mtv-shutting-down-after-40-years

Here's what I would love to see happen, depending on if they archived much of their 80s material. Put together several hours of programming that represents a single day back in the 1980s. Each day would represent a typical day in that particular month, in that year. The block of programming representing a day wouldn't be 24 hours, but maybe 6-8 hours hours of music videos and some of the more popular segments (MTV News, etc), complete with original intro from the VJs, and even the original ads that were aired during that time period. So, 12 of these 'days', broken down for each month of that year in the 1980s, run in sequential order, 120 blocks in total covering 1981 through 1991. Each days segment would be a time capsule of that little time period. I doubt they archived much, but you never know.

MTV lived a life in three acts. In its first act, not knowing what to do, it ended up doing what nobody else could: put music on the elision 24/7, with five VJs we still adore, and an uncanny ability to attract visual artists to play with its logo and interstitials. it then subverted your adult entertainment with genre-definint animation, satire, news that we cared about, and became the outlet through which new genres dominated the airwaves. Video, it seemed, had not killed the radio star, but was minting them. Having peaked early in live, its third act lasted most of it. MTV became a mediocre outlet for so-called ”unscripted” television, as complacent and plastic as Michael Grates In Reality Bites And playing second fiddled to online shit. We will miss MTV as much as we have missed what it used to stand for. Here is hoping someone graffitied over this tombstone every week, with multiple colors, and always whispering, “I want my MTV”. Pray it comes back to live and kill the Internet Influencer.

Wow dude, if you would've asked me then I never would've imagined mtv would not exist anymore before me. It's a whole ass tv channel like abc, or nbc that have been around just about as long as tvs have. Obviously mtv was new, but I never would've guessed TV it's self would be outmoded before I was even my dad's age. My predictions would have been that it would still be a round and still be cool as fuck when I was geriatric, and it'd be playing weird as fuck ass future music that I would probably hate, and the circle of life would be complete. Instead a lot of the world is unrecognizable to my younger self and I like damn near zero of the changes.

I grew up to Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Michael Jackson and Madonna. I went through puberty with Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. All the Hip Hop and R&B from the roller rink I got my first kiss to was made popular on MTV. My parents broke up to Alice in Chains. I expanded my mind to MTV Amp. I found out what was cool to Yo MTV Raps. I got moody to art with 120 Minutes. I banged my head to Headbangers Ball... even if I didn't have the hair for it. There was one place, one channel that crossed all cultures and bridged all people. A place that was sexy, cool, the heartbeat of several generations. A cultural institution. I want my MTV

MTV died May 1, 1992 from a self-inflicted lobotomy caused by the launch of “The Real World”. Sadly the body lingered on for decades due to the acrobatic dying off of brain cells due to prolonged exposure to the most vapid, narcissistic, F-list “celebrities” trying to escape their dead end lives.
