Large drone keeps patrolling my neighborhood

Hey y’all. I’ve seen this drone sporadically in my neighborhood over the past couple of months and am curious what it’s for. I assumed at first it was for snapping pictures of properties for house listings or something, but I literally saw it dip into what I assume is the patio area of a house two doors down for about a minute. Immediately after filming this short snippet it kept climbing in altitude and peaced out.
If it’s being used for legitimate commercial purposes I don’t particularly mind, but it’s definitely got me scratching my head lol. Any insight would be appreciated!

That's cool

Just sit out trash that is more than 17 lbs. They have trouble with anything over that weight and will get caught up on a light pole.

Amazon Drone Delivery
Capital_Chain_7378@reddit
Is it capturing and storing images/video?? Google already shoots the exterior of homes, no way we want Amazon peeking into even more corners.
lpalf@reddit
People downvoting this really want a surveillance state ig
a-davidson@reddit
It’s called “expectation of privacy”. I’m not “pro drones flying around our neighborhoods”, but no way you think a photo of your house from the street is any sort of invasion of privacy or legal issue.
lpalf@reddit
The surveillance state is not about things that are solely illegal. Yes for over a century technically anyone could have gone up to the outside of your front door and taken a photo. But it wasn’t until the late aughts that photos of the outside of everyone’s house were posted online for literally anyone in the world to see at any time. Similar thing is happening now with ring cameras. If you want to buy in for “safety” or convenience reasons, that’s your prerogative, but the surveillance state is literally predicated on the small and slow whittling down of anyone’s expectation of privacy at all, anywhere.
a-davidson@reddit
I’m not “buying into it”. I’m telling you, from both a legal and practical perspective, why it’s crazy to even care about things like Google street view. It’s all open to the public anyway.
Regular_or_BQ@reddit
My backyard isn't open to the public.
come-and-cache-me@reddit
Yet it’s visible to every google earth Cessna, all the gis and insurance mapping flights.
Regular_or_BQ@reddit
Being visible from the sky and being public property are not the same thing.
lpalf@reddit
If you think it’s crazy to care then you’re buying into to an extent. That’s fine, most of us have to an extent.
a-davidson@reddit
I’m simply telling you that the views of your house from the street, your license plate out on the road, etc. are open to the public, there’s no viable system to keep them private, and everyone already has theoretical access to these things. That’s my only point. My next point is that if it bothers you that’s fine and understandable, but idk how you want it to stop. Cops on every neighborhood street making sure no one looks/takes pics?
lpalf@reddit
and I already said that I know that. everyone knows that. the difference between how it used to be and how it has been since google street view is that now everyone on the planet can see your house instead of just the people in the immediate vicinity. I never said it was illegal, in fact I very specifically said that it WAS LEGAL but that it’s ok for people to not like it. You then said people were crazy for caring. The conversation is over because you’ve not once said anything that someone here didn’t already know and usually had already explicitly stated. See ya enjoy the ever encroaching surveillance on your life
Regular_or_BQ@reddit
Which is what is happening now. You're 100% correct.
Snobolski@reddit
Oh almost certainly.
htownclyde@reddit
It's even better, all the footage Amazon takes (think every Ring doorbell ever) will become accessible via the Flock database to any feds/cops who want to peek. The future truly is amazing!
SimpleCymbal@reddit (OP)
Dude! That’s wild. No idea that was a thing! I appreciate this, I guess we really are living in the future now. Thanks for educating this boomer haha. Case closed!
bigwill626@reddit
Walmart here in McKinney uses em now too
IntelligentSinger783@reddit
The ones in Frisco are cool too. They have Amazon and another couple (wing and flytrex) and they do food and prescription deliveries. Can carry up to 4 lbs if I recall. Pretty funny to see them deliver pizza when it's like 30 degrees out.
Captain_Coffee_III@reddit
I knew the Wal-Mart drones were here. Didn't know about the Amazon ones. neat.
The_DaHowie@reddit
Or Walmart...
The Walmart in Princeton drone station is nearly complete
wbd3434@reddit
Good to know! Absolutely vile. Thanks for sharing.
1millerce1@reddit
Hmmm.. no clue who owns that drone but nothing an accurate shotgun hit, restitution to the property owner for whatever it crash landed upon, and a little jail time won’t fix.
FerdTergeson@reddit
Rip of one of its wings, tie a rope around its leg and let it fly around in a cirlce! Thats what i'd do
Snobolski@reddit
No you wouldn't.
FerdTergeson@reddit
your're right, I'm sorry. I would not really tie a rope around one of its legs or rip off one of its wings.
nalditopr@reddit
That would be a felony.

Baaaaaaaha - ok I want to see the drone show but Hibiscus isn't my flavor, PM me if you want me to drop them off after! ;)
eventualist@reddit
Dude wipes? I'm scared to Google that.
Comet7777@reddit
Or you’re not on the bro podcast loop. I swear there was a period there where everyone was sponsored by Dude Wipes.
Hey, I’m all for whatever narrative is needed to get dudes to be into hygiene.
LiterallyJohnny@reddit
They’re literally just some wet wipes I’m surprised you haven’t heard of them/seen them at the store already lol
eventualist@reddit
As a dude, shopping isn't on my bingo card, but when I do, it's food and I guess the Bidet doesn't call for those disposable things! Hibiscus scented... eh?
Paulsur@reddit
It's a peeping tom with a zoom camera checking you out. Do you leave your curtains open when you change?
TeknoBlast@reddit
Don't worry, no one's trying to spy in you. I own a drone, not that large, and I fly around my neighborhood. All the houses are in the line of sight of the flight path and camera.
Yes I record footage but only recreational reasons because it's need to watch from the height of the drone.
insane_membrane214@reddit
I saw that drone yesterday in Richardson near renner and GB I was working on a house near there

buzzlegummed@reddit
Better get used to them. They are here to stay
Snobolski@reddit
No, it's usually only there for a minute or so, then it's gone.
Actionjack7@reddit
Glad you got out from under your rock.

Seen one of those Amazon drones several nights in a row going to the same house. Their deliveries are sync'd up with my dog walks. Wonder if it's because of my Ring doorbell...
lacesvodka@reddit
The dog was on it 🎯
Agitated_Body5781@reddit
Walmart has also started using drone deliveries in some cities
tcbaseball555@reddit
Idk if it's amazon in particular, but 100% definitely a delivery drone.

I was worried I was going to see my drone 😅 I’m learning to fly it
